Jenny Marrs took a basement from dull to delightful on “Fixer to Fabulous” — and the homeowners were delighted by the huge upgrade. The HGTV star shared what inspired the makeover for the family’s dream lake house.

On February 19, Marrs took to Instagram to reflect on the “Fixer to Fabulous” episode that aired the previous night. The episode synopsis explained: “A family purchased their dream lake house, and now they want Dave and Jenny to completely overhaul their boring basement. With full creative control, the Marrs create a British pub inspired entertaining space, complete with a speakeasy and outdoor oasis.”

In her Instagram post, the HGTV star showed the final basement reno in a number of photos, explaining what the homeowners wanted to do with the space.

She noted that the family bought the lake home “to serve as a landing pad for their family get togethers” a space where their grown kids could have guests “and they charged us with ensuring that the basement was eclectic, whimsical and fun.”

Marrs explained, “They asked for a few specifics: a British pub atmosphere, a wheelchair accessible bathroom and a bunk room with six beds but no actual upper bunks. Oh, and, they wanted the entire space to have a ‘wow factor.'”

To say that Marrs delivered the “wow” is an understatement. She shared that this space provided an opportunity to get creative because it’s a basement.

“This renovation was unique for several reasons — this isn’t the Klechka family’s main home and this isn’t their main living space,” Marrs noted. “We didn’t need to worry as much about timelessness and ensuring the space functioned well for day-to-day living.”

She added, “We needed simply to have fun with the design and ensure the functionality of the space focused on a wonderful experience for their guests. I love knowing that their family will enjoy long days out on the lake and then gather here to rehash the day, play board games, and laugh together. That’s the good stuff. 🫶”

‘Fixer to Fabulous’ Fans Loved the Unique Makeover

Marrs received a flood of comments praising the renovation and her design choices. Many were completely blown away by the bathroom, as one fan noted, “I love this bathroom. The vanity and mirrors are so bougie. The tiles are so pretty. The checkerboard flooring is so timeless and classic. Love it so much.”

Another fan wrote, “Loved this remake. It turned out so beautiful. AND the telephone booth!! So fabulous Dave. You are so amazing!”
