HGTV’s Jasmine Roth Vulnerably Shares Family Loss: ‘Hard to Actually Say Goodbye’

Although HGTV star Jasmine Roth’s motto is “Build Your Happy,” she’s not afraid to share with her fans when she’s working through sad or frustrating times, from the premature birth of her second daughter in 2024 to the overwhelm of being a busy working mom.

On May 10, 2025, the star of “Help! I Wrecked My House” revealed in a heartwarming Instagram post that her latest challenge is dealing with the death of her grandfather, sharing, “This week my Grandpa Dan passed away and I’m just now taking some time to process this loss.”

Captioning a series of photos and videos from a lifetime of loving moments with her grandpa, Roth wrote, “While we’d already said goodbye when we saw him, knowing it was in fact probably our last time, it’s hard to actually say goodbye… 💔💔”

Jasmine Roth Says She’s Grateful Her Grandpa Was Part of Her Daughter Hazel’s Life

Noting that her grandfather was 86 at the time of his death, Roth wrote over a sweet photo of him holding her as a baby that “while his death wasn’t a surprise, it’s never easy to lose someone who’s been there your whole life.”

Sharing additional childhood photos, Roth — who now has two daughters of her own, five-year-old Hazel and eight-month-old Darla — noted that her grandparents “were a huge part of my childhood.”

“It’s funny how we derive so much of our adult personality from the people we grew up around,” Roth wrote, noting that some of the traits she picked up from her grandpa include “loving the outdoors, creating, building, and cooking a mean vegetable soup.”

Sharing additional photos, Roth wrote that even during college, she prioritized spending time with her grandparents, noting that even if “it wasn’t always the most exciting way to spend hard earned vacation time, it was always worth it.”

“He loved being part of my life, no matter what stage I was in,” Roth wrote, adding that one of her greatest joys was that he and her daughter Hazel were able to have a relationship noting that “they hit it off and she adored him.”

Roth shared multiple photos of Hazel with her grandpa as well as an image of him meeting baby Darla via video.

“Saying goodbye got me thinking about how we all hope to be remembered,” Roth concluded. “How important happiness is. And that it’s never too late to start building it. Until next time, Grandpa. You are loved.”
