HGTV’s Jasmine Roth Bravely Shares Emotional Family Update: ‘It’s Been Hard’

With the end of her maternity leave in sight, HGTV star Jasmine Roth shared an emotional social media update with her fans on January 16, 2025, calling the four months since the “terrifying” early birth of her second child, daughter Darla Rose, “an unpredictable time in our lives.”

In a whirlwind emergency delivery, baby Darla arrived a month early weighing under 5 pounds, spent 15 days in the NICU, and finally went home with a feeding tube that was removed two months later. In the midst of that chaos, the Roth family — including big sister Hazel, 4, and dad Brett — had just moved from California to Utah, where “Help! I Wrecked My House” will soon begin filming its fifth season.

“On top of the newborn bubble that inevitably turns every parent upside down,” Roth wrote in her update, “we moved to a new state, into a new house, I moved my show and company, and we’ve basically just started completely over on every level. It’s fair to say that it’s been a lot more than we expected.”

Jasmine Roth Says Her ‘Heart Aches’ as She Nears End of Maternity Leave

Acknowledging that “it’s been hard,” Roth shared how challenging being a new mom in a new city has been while jugging “doctor’s appointments, specialist appointments, caretaker interviews, and hours stressing that we might be missing or forgetting one little thing that could slow (Darla) down.”

“It’s been a constant battle to stay present, stay awake, stay strong, stay patient, and stay the course,” she wrote.

The good news, however, is that bright-eyed baby Darla has more than doubled her weight and is thriving, appearing in a video Roth posted of her smiling and holding her head up. Over the last four months, Roth wrote, “She just wanted snuggles, her mom to feed her, her dad to hold her like a football, sissy to make her laugh, and a quiet place to nap all bundled up in her sleep sack.”

As the founder of Built Custom Homes and star of “Help! I Wrecked My Home,” Roth is nearing the end of her maternity leave.

“As I get ready to go back to work full time, my heart aches and the mom guilt comes in overwhelming waves,” she shared. “But of course, we’ll be fine and still spend plenty of time together (all night if it’s up to her – ha!) and my job (which I love and I’m also so excited to go back to) will balance with the new schedule that two kids requires.”

Los Angeles Wildfires Have Weighed On Jasmine Roth’s Heart, She Says

While navigating her new life in Park City, Roth said she’s been gutted watching news of the wildfires in her native California. Before their move, her family lived in Orange County, about 30 miles south of L.A. — safe from the fires, but close enough to know many people impacted by the devastation.

On January 9, Roth posted that “it’s been heartbreaking to see the fires tearing through Los Angeles” and that she couldn’t stop thinking about other new moms trying to navigate so much loss. She noted that her family was donating to organizations who could help “in real time.”

In her January 16 post, Roth shared, “Given everything that’s happening with the California fires, it’s impossible not to feel a deep gratitude for the little things. The highs and lows the past two weeks have been pronounced, as I wished I could be more helpful but also don’t have an ounce of extra strength to contribute. Trying to wrap my head around the tragedy that our neighbors are enduring, while trying to be strong for our family.”

Roth received over 1,000 encouraging comments from fans on her vulnerable post, including from one who wrote, “Your girls and hubby are blessed with you, girl. Keep on being a strong role model. Your girls will continue to benefit, and so will your viewers. You are a great mommy. You got this! ❤️”
