Weeks After Losing His Dad, HGTV Star Features Him on Show: ‘Means So Much’

Viewers who watched the latest episode of Izzy Battres’ new HGTV show may not have realized what a meaningful moment they’d witnessed when the contractor embraced and chatted with his dad.

On February 19, 2025, the third episode of “Izzy Does It” included a segment during which Battres — who previously appeared on many seasons of HGTV’s “Flip or Flop” with Christina Haack and Tarek El Moussa — was talking with his brother Rudy at their family’s renovation business when their dad walked in.

The day after the episode premiered, Battres shared on Instagram that it was “really bittersweet” to watch given that their dad had died less than two months earlier, on December 27, 2025.

“Last night’s episode was a really bittersweet moment for my family and me,” Battres wrote. “Watching this episode and thinking back to the day we filmed it means so much to my siblings, my mom, and me. It gave us a chance to see and hear him again, and that’s something we’ll always be grateful for.”

Izzy Battres’ Dad Encouraged Him to Be Patient With His Own Son on Meaningful Episode

“My dad was the heart of Battres Construction, so having him be part of Izzy Does It was special,” Battres wrote in his post. “He got to see all of us working together, doing what we love, and sharing it with all of you.”

During the February 19 episode, titled “Retro Home, Modern Updates,” Battres was seen chatting at the office with his brother Rudy, who serves as project manager for Battres Construction. When they noticed their dad, Rodolfo, lingering in the next room, they called him in and both got up to give him big hugs.

“My pops always worked in construction,” Battres then told producers and quipped, “He took us everywhere, unwillingly. That’s how I earned my stripes.”

After their dad sat down with them, they joked about which son was a harder worker growing up. In Spanish with subtitles provided by HGTV, Rodolfo got them all laughing when he said, “Since Rudy was always in love, he would do his job and go. And you, you were more focused on work.”

Battres then asked his dad for advice about his own son, Joey, who’s been learning the business but not as quickly or passionately as Battres had hoped.

“I’m telling you, you have to be patient,” his dad told him, “because not everyone in the world works the same. I don’t have much to advise you because you’re good parents.”

After their sweet exchange, Battres told producers, “My dad now is very different from who he used to be. Now, he’s a patient man. And I think it’s probably because he just doesn’t have the energy to become impatient.”

Battres shared a photo of him, Rudy and Joey with his dad on the set of his show in June, writing, “It’s truly special to see the legacy continue through the years. Working side by side with my family has been an interesting and rewarding journey, filled with lessons, laughter, and love.”

Izzy Battres Paid Tribute to His Dad in Touching Posts After His Death

Two days after his father’s death in December, Battres shared a poignant tribute to his dad on social media and thanked those who “prayed for him and our family during this time.”

He wrote, “My dad was my hero, my biggest fan, and my greatest inspiration. When I started Battres Construction, he believed in me before I even believed in myself. He encouraged me from day one, always cheering me on with the pride and love only a father can give.”

“He was the funniest person I’ve ever known, always ready with a joke or a song,” Battres continued. “Singing was his passion, and he’d take any opportunity to belt out a tune. And when he wasn’t singing, he was making friends with everyone he met—his kindness and warmth were truly unmatched.”

Sharing a childhood photo of their family and a throwback video in which he embraced his dad and said, “I love my father,” Battres concluded his post with a Bible verse and shared, “My dad will be deeply missed, not just by me and my siblings, but by everyone whose life he touched. He left behind a legacy of love, faith, and joy that will carry on in our hearts forever.”

In addition, Battres and his team shared a tribute to his dad on his Battres Construction Instagram page in December, with an old photo them together outside his office building.

“Rodolfo wasn’t just a part of Battres Construction,” the post said. “He was Battres Construction. From the very beginning, he helped us build this company from the ground up, brick by brick, with unwavering dedication, vision, and heart.”

The first season of “Izzy Does It,” which premiered on February 5, airs on Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
