HGTV has given away a lot of houses over the years, but its latest winner of the HGTV Urban Oasis is making history!
For the first time ever, the winner of the network’s 2024 Urban Oasis lives in the town where the home is located.
HGTV’s 2024 Urban Oasis is in Kansas City, Missouri. And its new owner, Anna Bublitz, is a Kansas City native.
And that’s not all. Anna says she’s never entered the giveaway before this season. In fact, the director of operations for a Kansas City marketing company says the fact that the home was in her hometown is what enticed her to enter.
“I never imagined I would actually win,” said Anna in a press release. She goes on, “I thought, ‘Why not enter?’ But when my best friend Aubree picked me up for brunch and drove me to the house, I was completely shocked. I literally stopped in my tracks and blacked out—it felt like a dream!”
Kansas City Woman Wins Prize Package Worth $700K+
Once Anna Bublitz decided she would enter, she went all in.
She says she and her husband Jake entered twice a day, every day. They even set up reminder notifications so they wouldn’t forget.
And that dedication paid off big time. Anna wins not just the newly remodeled fully-furnished 2,200 square foot home, but also $50,000. The prize package is worth more than $700,000.
Anna and her husband currently live about 20 minutes from the Urban Oasis.
Convincing Her Husband She Won Took Some Doing
The designer of the home, Carmeon Hamilton, was the one to break the news to Anna Bublitz, but she had some help.
For the big reveal, Hamilton enlisted the help of Bublitz’s best friend Aubree. According to People, Aubree convinced Anna that they were going out to brunch, but drove her to the Urban Oasis property instead.
Hamilton arranged to have much of Anna’s family on hand and in on the surprise that she had won the three-bedroom, two-bath home.
But one person wasn’t there.
Anna’s husband Jake was out of town.
And it reportedly took some convincing to get him to believe her when she shared the good news on the phone. In fact, Jake thought she was kidding until he came home to find she truly had the keys to the Urban Oasis.
And while this may have been the first year Anna entered the contest, she’s a true believer now. “Why not enter every day?” she said in the press release. “You never know when luck might be on your side.”
