They may be going head-to-head in a Flip Off, but HGTV star exes Christina Haack and Tarek El Moussa are on the same team in one way. The pair are on good enough terms to be in a group chat with El Moussa’s second wife Heather. “The Flip Off,” which just debuted on HGTV, pits the pair against each other to see who can buy, renovate and flip a house for the biggest financial gain.
But Christina and Tarek also co-parent two children, which makes open communication essential. And it turns out that’s no problem. In an Instagram live post, the reality trio shared that there is no unresolved baggage among them. They say their dynamic is built on mutual respect and open communication. And while the group chat between the three doesn’t have a name, Christina and Heather whispered some suggestions to each other during the live post.
But while there may not be baggage, there’s still plenty of competition between the HGTV stars! In a press release from Warner Brothers Media, Christina says, “Tarek, Heather and I have all been through a lot of stuff together, and we are all highly competitive. Tarek is the self-proclaimed ‘best flipper in the world,’ but, honestly, give me a break. I can’t wait to smoke them at their own game.”
With more than 1,000 house flips to his credit, Tarek is feeling confident. In the same press release, Tarek answered back, “When it comes to distressed real estate, I own the space and Christina doesn’t stand a chance. It all comes down to this—who’s going to rise higher from the ashes of everything that we burned to the ground?”
New HGTV Series Comes with Some Surprises
While “The Flip Off” started with Christina teamed up with third husband Josh Hall, a break-up mid-filming left her competing against the El Moussas solo.
And Hall’s disappearance wasn’t the only jaw dropper. Each team got to pick judges for different episodes. And Christina surprised her competition by inviting second husband, Ant Anstead, to be a guest judge.
In an interview with People magazine, Tarek expressed his surprise. He said he wasn’t even aware that the the two were on speaking terms after a bitter divorce in 2020 and subsequent custody battle over their son, Hudson. “All of a sudden they’re besties,” Tarek recalls of seeing Anstead and Christina interact while shooting the episode. But People quotes Christina saying the reconciliation was a conscious choice both made for the sake of Hudson. “Ant and I share Hudson… and I feel like he deserves to have us get along,” she said.
HGTV Stars Bond Over Shared Experiences
And the renewed friendship with Anstead is not the only thing on the show that might raise eyebrows.
Christina finds plenty to talk about with Tarek El Moussa’s current wife, Heather Rae El Moussa. When Heather complains about Tarek, Christina cautions her that the “grass isn’t always greener.” In fact, in the Instagram live post, the two women suggest that season two of “The Flip Off” should pit them against Tarek. Fans watching the live quickly chimed in that the women would win that competition hands down.
“The Flip Off” airs Wednesday evenings on HGTV.
