For Daphne Reckert and Ian Figueira, starring in the HGTV series “Castle Impossible” has meant major changes to their lives. Renovating their massive French chateau already presented plenty of challenges, but doing so with a TV film crew on site required some adjustment. “There have been times that were really scary and stressful,” Figueira told Columbia Gorge News.
Incredible design projects aside, the couple’s relationship is at the series’ heart. During the interview, the couple opened up about how they’ve maintained a positive balance between the renovation process and their longstanding romance. Reckert explained that it’s been important to “remember we are on the same team” throughout the project, while Figueira emphasized that any issues that arise are shared problems.
Speaking of shared problems, both spouses agree that the chateau trumps any minor disagreements they may have, leaving little time for marital strife and helping to keep things in perspective. “Yeah, if the biggest problem of the day is that I ate the last bit of ice cream, that’s a good day,” Figueira said. “That’s solid.”
The ‘Castle Impossible’ Couple Says Communication is Key
In their interview, the “Castle Impossible” couple admitted that they’ve had to change the way they look at stress to keep things peaceful. “I feel like we almost had to compartmentalize stress because we had different things happening every single day,” Figueira said. “We needed to be on the same page about what was coming next. We try to communicate as much as possible.”
When asked how they unwind from the difficulties of renovations, Reckert shared that they take advantage of their local surroundings. “We’ll take walks around the lake. We go to the village to have an ice cream or go to the market.” She also shared that, on some occasions, returning to their native California is the best break from stressful situations.
Fans Can’t Get Enough of the Couple’s Dynamic
Although Reckert and Figueira sometimes have typical couple disagreements, HGTV fans love the high school sweethearts’ on-screen chemistry. The couple’s Instagram posts are full of comments about their dynamic, such as one fan’s heartwarming observation: “Such a sweet couple and wonderful show!”
Some fans have commented on how cute the “Castle Impossible” couple looks together, while others have praised their treatment of each other. One netizen said, “You two are the sweetest couple, and I absolutely love the way you treat each other with love and respect.” This couple’s union is just as worth tuning in for as their stunning renovation work.
