HGTV has reportedly given the green light to a new home improvement show that will take place in Detroit.
The Futon Critic amplifies a press release from HGTV indicating the launch of the series “Condemned.” There will initially be eight one-hour episodes, featuring daughter Kristyn Patterson, the property investor and rehabber, with father Pancho Patterson, the builder, who are hoping to rehabilitate “The Motor City’s worst houses that are destined for the wrecking ball.”
As also highlighted in an article by the Detroit Metro Times, the release includes a comment from HGTV Head of Content Loren Ruch stating, “Kristyn and Pancho have a tangible passion for Detroit and the necessary skills, grit and humor to renovate crumbling homes no one else will touch. Our cameras will follow the highs and lows as they grow their family business and prove that no home is too far gone.”
The show is scheduled to premiere this summer.
The Pattersons Competed on a Previous HGTV Program

The Pattersons have previously appeared on HGTV, as they were one of several family duos featured in the 2022 series “I Bought a Dump … Now What?” In their episode, as highlighted by Distractify, Kristyn paid $52,000 for a house she and her father needed to renovate in just 90 days, leading to some tough moments between the two.
Another HGTV Show Found Success In Its First Season

The father-daughter team would certainly love to follow the successful footsteps of another new show at HGTV. As amplified by EntertainmentNOW, Tristyn & Kamohai Kalama have not totally adjusted to their newfound fame. Their show, “Renovation Aloha”, became an instant hit in its first season, and as season two kicked off on February 18, 2025, the couple admit they are still getting used to being recognized so often in public.
“You can say it’s drastically different for sure,” Tristyn told TV Insider, noting that because they’re part of a tight-knit community in Hawaii, they were used to running into people they knew at the grocery store.
“We live on an island, so we can’t go to a grocery store without seeing people we (knew) before television,” she said. “Now that has exacerbated tenfold.”
TV Insider noted that prior to the HGTV debut of “Renovation Aloha” in February 2024, the Kalamas were curious about the potential of the TV exposure making them more recognizable locally. What they didn’t expect was that people beyond Hawaii would treat them like celebrities, too.
“Even when we travel to the mainland since the show aired,” Tristyn said, “being noticed on the other side of the country like Florida. It’s wild. It has changed for the best and in all amazing ways. We’ve felt support from everyone. We are so grateful.”
