HGTV‘s “The Flip Off” is a new flipping competition show that pits Christina Haack against her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and his wife Heather Rae El Moussa. Heather Rae said she had some concerns about her husband filming the show with his ex-wife.
Heather Rae El Moussa Worried ‘Are We Gonna Get Along?’
In a January 2025 interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Heather Rae admits she had some initial concerns about how the exes would work together, but there was nothing to worry about.
“I definitely had some reservations … ‘Can they film again together? Do you guys wanna do this? Are we gonna get along? … Is this gonna affect the kids at all in a negative way?'” she said.
Ultimately, she said filming the show “brought us closer together.”
Heather Rae explained, “We got to know each other in a different way, on a deeper level, and I really enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to.”
She added, “And I think it was fun for [Christina and Tarek] to come back together and film — there’s no drama right now in our lives. We’re all just having a great time filming this show together.”
Tarek El Moussa Called Emotional Moment in ‘The Flip Off’ Premiere ‘Extremely Healing’
In “The Flip Off” premiere episode, Tarek and Christina have a heart-to-heart talk when she reveals that she and then-husband Josh Hall were separating.
“I think it was extremely healing,” Tarek said. “Not just for the two of us, but I think for many around the world that have [watched] our story since 2012. So I think a lot of people have been waiting for that moment and it finally came.”
Christina agreed, telling Yahoo Entertainment, “I know personally, some people even on set have been through divorces, who are struggling with their exes and struggling with co-parenting, those people always admired how we co-parented,” she explained.
The HGTV star added, “But to see that happen in person, people were crying and they said, ‘This is just inspiring to have this relationship with my ex now.'”
Filming with her ex wasn’t an issue, Christina said. “We both knew how to turn it on when it came to the camera, right? I mean, we filmed together for five years post separation [and] divorce,” she noted.
She also admitted that filming a show isn’t always easy. “But filming with Heather was so easy, so fun. And that made the show so much better,” Christina explained.
