HGTV star Erin Napier is a big fan of color. Her designs on “Home Town” are never dull or boring, bland or gray. Napier shares the easy way to find inspiration for your next home improvement.
Erin Napier Looks to the Past for Design Inspo
In a July 1 Instagram post, Napier shared one of the ways she finds inspiration for her home designs. It’s a simple enough idea that even non-professionals can use.
The caption noted, “Pro tip: when you need inspiration, look to the past. Owens Corning Duration ® Designer series provides a history-inspired palette of possibilities for your roof.”
In the video, she gave some examples of where to find inspo, especially when it comes to color. “People sometimes ask what inspires my designs. And the answer is, I look to the past,” Napier shared in the video.
Napier continued, “Old movies, old books, old magazines … they all give me ideas for classic colors and designs and I love how they do it.”
She flipped through the pages, noting, “This. A green roof on a blue house with white trim. It’s the color of the clouds and the sky and the trees. And it just makes the house feel like it’s a part of nature.”
The HGTV star added, “In historic design, people were not afraid to use bold, vibrant color. Somewhere along the way, we became afraid of color and the world became very gray.”
Fans Love Erin Napier’s View on Color
The HGTV star’s fans hit up the comments section to share their appreciation for her design choices.
“Your design style is my favorite out of all the HGTV shows. I cannot stand the ‘modern, open concept, clean lines, etc’ designs that are so popular now,” one fan shared.
Another person commented, “Love the use of color in the past. It always felt deep and rich. I look at classic American restaurants that were once vibrantly colored and now are sad, gray boxes. Who decided this?? Love your use of color on all your shows. They are happy and comforting homes.”
Others noted, “Love the warmth that color gives it — makes a house a HOME!” and “Love your designs. Life is too short to have homes with only gray walls, floors, and fabrics.”
“I LOVE this!! So tired of the gray and white scheme and the lack of warmth and personality!!” another fan shared. “Glad to see this coming back!!”
