March 2025 will go down as a monumental month for HGTV star Egypt Sherrod. Not only does her series, “Married to Real Estate,” kick off its fourth season on March 12, but she’s going into the premiere as an award winner.
On March 1, Sherrod was honored with the prestigious Vanguard Award at the 15th Annual BronzeLens Film Festival in Atlanta. According to a press release, the honor was part of the organization’s Women SuperStars Awards, which “celebrate women who have broken barriers, excelled in their fields, and paved the way for future generations of women of color to become industry leaders.”
Though Sherrod knew she was receiving the award, she had no idea her husband and HGTV co-star Mike Jackson would be the one to give it to her after a touching tribute.
Egypt Sherrod Thought Husband Mike Jackson Was Going to Miss Her Award Presentation
BronzeLens’ press release said it chose to honor Sherrod, who lives and films “Married to Real Estate” in Atlanta, because she’s “a true powerhouse whose multifaceted career spans real estate, design, entrepreneurship, and media.” The organization also noted that her series “ranks among HGTV’s top five programs” and airs in over 82 countries.
In a social media post she shared the day after the ceremony, Sherrod and Jackson adorably revealed how they woke up the morning of March 1 — bleary-eyed in their pajamas — and how they transformed for the glamorous event later that day. She also shared how touched she was to have her husband present the award to her.
“Last night was an amazing honor receiving the Vanguard Award at the @bronzelens superstar honors,” Sherrod wrote. “Moments before I was called up, Mike said he had to go to the men’s room. I was texting him that he was about to miss the whole thing. Then just as I said to myself ‘he always has to go to the bathroom at the wrong time’….. out he walks on stage to my surprise to present me with the award. 🤣🤣 Tricky trickster. So sweet.”
Though Jackson’s specific comments about his wife have not been published, Atlanta Daily World reported that “the night took an emotional turn” when he surprised her with “a heartfelt speech.”
“His words reflected not only her excellence but the dedication, resilience, and leadership she embodies every day,” the outlet said.
Egypt Sherrod Encouraged Women to Step ‘Boldly’ Into Their Purpose in Her Acceptance Speech
In Sherrod’s acceptance speech, per Atlanta Daily World, she told the audience, “My heart is overflowing with gratitude. To stand among such extraordinary women, each leaving their own powerful mark on the world, is both humbling and inspiring.”
“This moment isn’t just about me,” she continued. “It’s about all of us stepping boldly into our purpose, lifting as we climb, and ensuring the next generation has even more room to soar. I am deeply thankful to Kathleen Bertrand and the BronzeLens Film Festival for not only honoring my journey but for creating a space where our voices, our creativity, and our impact can truly be seen, heard, and felt.”
In addition to Sherrod’s Vanguard Award, BronzeLens presented its Legendary Award to Grammy- and Tony- nominated actress Valarie Pettiford, who currently appears on BET’s “The Family Business” and “The Young and the Restless.”
Meanwhile, the night’s Behind the Lens Award went to Myeshia Mizuno, executive producer of “Family Feud” and “Celebrity Family Feud,” which makes her the first black female showrunner of a primetime network gameshow, BronzeLens said.
The fourth season of HGTV’s “Married to Real Estate” premieres on March 12 at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
