It’s been an emotional few weeks for longtime HGTV star Eygpt Sherrod. Amid the shock of HGTV canceling “Married to Real Estate,” which she co-starred in with her husband Mike Jackson, and the subsequent news that the series had been nominated for an Emmy, Sherrod revealed on July 27, 2025, that she’d also been dealing with tough emotions around the death of her dad.
Sherrod posted a screenshot of a social media comment in which she revealed that her dad had “passed away two weeks ago” and that “due to our complicated relationship I hadn’t seen him in 15 years.”
In a vulnerable and poignant post, the real estate maven shared how her father’s death had suddenly hit her hard, admitting she thought she had more time to make amends with him.
Egypt Sherrod Says 2 Weeks After Dad’s Death, She ‘Whaled in His Remembrance’
Sherrod revealed via Instagram on June 24 that HGTV had informed her and Jackson that “Married to Real Estate” wouldn’t be returning for a fifth season, which shocked countless fans.
In the screenshot that Sherrod shared, she commented that she wasn’t angry at her dad, noting, “I forgave him a long time ago.”
“But years passed and we no longer knew each other,” she explained of the distance between them. “So we both stopped trying. I always thought one day we’d sit down and talk and heal. Tmrw is an arrogant assumption. Prioritize forgiveness and healing today.”
The weight of that realization hit Sherrod over the weekend, she told followers in her post’s caption, writing on July 27, “I finally grieved last night. We never really knew one another but it still hurt. A slight crack became a gaping wound and I grieved the relationship we never had. The years that went by with no calls or effort. He never met my children.”
“Yet I still whaled in his remembrance,” Sherrod continued. “Then he came to me and showed me that he loved us and never stopped. He just didn’t know how to fix it. Parents don’t have all the answers as we think they should. But we should love and forgive them unconditionally. I lost a piece of me that I never really got to know. Too little and too late. Rest well father. I forgive. I love. I’m sorry.”
