It’s not unusual for HGTV star Drew Scott to call up his buddy Michael Bublé, given that they’re longtime friends and business partners. But the music superstar was caught off guard when Scott recently claimed to just be calling to “say goodnight” as part of a hilarious prank.
On June 12, 2025, Scott — one half of the “Property Brothers” with his twin brother Jonathan Scott — posted a social media video of the exchange, which “The Voice” coach immediately found odd. Scott struggled to keep his composure throughout the call, laughing so hard that he was wiping tears from his eyes by the end.
Michael Bublé Was Totally Thrown Off by Drew Scott’s Goodnight Call
After Scott and his wife Linda put their kids — son Parker, 3, and daughter Piper, 1 — to bed, he sat down to call Bublé. He started his video by showing followers his phone screen display, which noted he had pulled up the music superstar from his contact list. He wrote over it in bold letters, “Calling my buddy to say goodnight.”
Bublé likely thought there was an important reason Scott was calling him at night. But after the exchanged greetings and asked how each other was doing, Scott nonchalantly told Bublé, “Got the kids down, so I’m going to bed, so I, uh, just wanted to call to say goodnight.”
After a pause, Scott said, “Hello?” and Bublé replied, “Are you talking to me?”
“Yeah, man,” Scott responded, and again, Bublé asked, “Are you talking to me? Did you say that?”
With a straight face, Scott said, “Yeah — no, no, no, I just thought I’d say goodnight” and Bublé suddenly burst out laughing.
As Scott then buried his face, trying not to laugh, Bublé asked, “To me!? Are you talking to Linda? Are you talking to me or are you talking to Linda?”
“No buddy, I’m talking to you,” Scott managed to say. “I thought, I wanted to call and say goodnight, sweetheart” — which he sang before adding — “and say ‘I hope you have a good night.”
“Seriously? You’re (expletive) with me, man,” Bublé laughed, and that got Scott giggling. At one point, he tried to pretend his laughter was a sneeze.
When Bublé asked, “Is your brother there with you?” Scott hilariously replied, “No, Jonathan and I don’t live together anymore.”
By the end of the call, both men were laughing so hard, they were in tears, with Scott wiping his eyes and Bublé telling him he would have expected a prank like that more from Jonathan, adding, “Oh, I love you. You’re so stupid, dude!”
Drew Scott & Michael Bublé Have Been Longtime Friends and Even Co-Own a Hockey Team
Bublé has been friends with the Scott brothers for decades. They all grew up in the same neighborhood in Vancouver, Canada, according to ET Online.
The Grammy winner appeared on the first season of “Celebrity IOU” in 2020, when he gifted his late grandpa’s home in Vancouver to his longtime caregiver, Minette.
In September 2023, Drew joined Bublé as a co-owner of the Vancouver Giants pro hockey team. Bublé and his dad already had minority stakes in the team and he convinced Drew to come on board, per the Vancouver Sun.
“I love hockey so much, and it has been such a rewarding experience to be part of my favorite sport at a grassroots level,” Bublé said in a statement from the team at the time. “Drew brings a new level of excitement and visibility to the Giants. I’m excited to work alongside him as we continue to support our incredible city, the beautiful people, and the greatest game on earth.”
