Before he became one half of the uber-successful “Property Brothers” on HGTV with his twin brother, managing a $3 billion lifestyle empire, real estate expert Drew Scott thought his future was in acting, enrolling in drama classes and landing small TV roles in Canada. On February 7, 2025, he returns to those acting roots, appearing in his first major feature film as “Love Hurts” hits theaters.
Starring Oscar winners Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose, the action comedy is about a realtor who is “pulled back into the life he left behind after his former partner-in-crime resurfaces with an ominous message,” per Universal Pictures’ synopsis. In a promo video for “Love Hurts,” producer Kelly McCormick said Scott’s cameo as real estate agent Jeff Zaks will be a “big surprise” for moviegoers and called his comedic role “honestly one of my favorite things in the whole movie.”
Drew Scott Had to Train for Action Role in ‘Love Hurts’
As the main real estate rival to Huy Quan’s character, Marvin, Scott’s character promotes his karate expertise as part of his skillset, advertising his “fighting spirit” in over-the-top marketing ads, according to NBC.
At the Hollywood movie premiere for “Love Hurts,” Scott told Creators Faire that production company 87 North put him through strenuous training for his action-heavy role, which included stunts as his character comes under fire in a house he’s showing to clients.
“You know, you go to the gym, you try to be healthy, and then you talk to 87 North,” he said on the red carpet. “They put you in one of their films, and the training to get to that point? That’s better than Pilates or anything you could possibly do with a trainer. It was amazing.”
Scott, who has a martial arts background, went through “a couple days” of routines and choreography, telling the outlet, “It was a blast.”
‘Love Hurts’ Producer Says Drew Scott ‘Completely Committed to the Role’

McCormick told NBC she came up with the idea for including Scott in the movie after meeting him at a party.
“We met Drew at an open house for one of our stunt facilities,” she said. “When he mentioned his background — his father was actually a stunt performer — and showed us some of his action work, we knew we had to find a place for him in this film.”
“Having him play a rival real estate agent who crosses paths with Ke felt perfect,” she continued. “He completely committed to the role, and I think audiences, especially ‘Property Brothers’ fans, will be surprised by what he brings to his scenes. He flew all the way to Winnipeg for a day-and-a-half of shooting, and honestly, his scenes are some of my favorites in the movie.”
