Drew Scott Shares His Toddler’s Adorably Unexpected First Words

Property Brother Drew Scott is loving his life as a family man and father of two young children, but that doesn’t mean everything always goes his way.

In fact, the HGTV star revealed to People that when it comes to his 15-month-old daughter Piper, “dada” wasn’t her first word… or even her second!

“’Mama’ was her first word, and she would say it all the time,” Drew said. “And then months are going by. I’m like, ‘Come on. ‘Dada, dada, dada, dada.’ Her second word — ‘Hippo.’ Her stuffy is a hippo. Her second word was ‘hippo.’ I’m like, ‘You can’t even say Dada before Hippo?’ “ Drew laughed.

But all’s well that ends well for the proud dad. “Now she’s saying ‘Dada,’ so I’m happy,” he adds.

Drew and wife Linda Phan share Piper, who was born in May 2024 and 3-year-old son Parker.

Piper’s Hilarious Twin Confusion

Piper Scott may have her dad wrapped around her little finger, but refusing to say his name isn’t the only funny thing the adorable little girl has done to keep Drew Scott on his toes.

On an episode of “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” Drew admitted his daughter initially had a hard time telling he and twin brother Jonathan Scott apart.

“Piper is now starting to recognize it’s not me,” Drew laughed. Jonathan chimed in, “Now Piper has officially started to recognize me because, for the first several months, she was confused as to why Daddy shaved.”

Drew was quick to jokingly counter, “And got older looking and more wrinkled and more gray.”

Drew Scott Has Had His Own Name Mishaps

It may have taken Piper Scott a while to say her daddy’s name, but Drew Scott has his own history with name mishaps.

In a new episode of the podcast “Rodiculous,” the Property Brother reveals that he messed up 3-year-old son Parker’s name not long after he was born.

Drew explains that wife Linda Phan had been in labor for 45 hours before Parker was born, so by the time they brought their new baby home from the hospital, both Linda and Drew were exhausted.

“We just got Parker home from the hospital and I had him out on the street in the bassinette. One of our neighbors comes over and says ‘Oh you finally had your baby! Congratulations!’ and I’m like ‘Yes, meet Patrick,” he told podcast host Rosanna Pansino.

“Linda looks at me like ‘our baby’s name is not Patrick’ and I’m like ‘what?’,” Drew laughed.

He then tells Rosanna it’s an Scottish tradition to name the first-born after the paternal grandfather. And that’s why is why Parker’s middle name is James after his dad, James Scott. But when he texted his friends in a group chat, he introduced his son as “Parker Justin.”
