A rare and cryptic photo HGTV star David Bromstad posted in his Instagram Stories on May 14, 2025, left enough fans concerned that he had to clear the air the following day, assuring them he’s okay.
The beloved star of “My Lottery Dream Home” rarely shares personal updates on social media, but on May 14 he added a photo of himself to his Instagram Stories. His eyes were half closed, his head was resting on a large pillow, and there was an oxygen tube in his nose. Bromstad didn’t add any text to explain what was going on.
On May 15, Bromstad shared another selfie in his Instagram Stories from aboard a plane and winking at the camera. He added a quote bubble with a blowing-kisses emoji in it and wrote, “U guys are weird and sweet. I was in a hyperbaric chamber getting my cells oxygenated and yummy!!!”
What is a Hyperbaric Chamber? David Bromstad’s Getting Extra Oxygen

A hyperbaric chamber, as referenced by Bromstad in his Instagram Stories, is an enclosed space where people receive hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). John Hopkins Medicine describes HBOT as a ” type of treatment used to speed up healing of carbon monoxide poisoning, gangrene, and wounds that won’t heal. It is also used for infections in which tissues are starved for oxygen.”
Inside the chamber, per Johns Hopkins, a person breathes in “pure oxygen in air pressure levels 1.5 to 3 times higher than average,” aiming to infuse their blood with “enough oxygen to repair tissues and restore normal body function.”
It’s clearly helping the HGTV star feel good, since he added to his Instagram update, “Super healthy and thriving my loves. I adore u all.”

When he turned 50 in August 2023, the designer shared rare insights about his personal growth journey on Instagram, in two separate posts, noting that he was feeling “mentally, emotionally and spiritually content” for the first time in a long time.
He revealed that he was in Norway, visiting the country where his ancestors were from and that he’d completed the famous Reinebringen hike, a steep 2,000 uphill trek. Experts say it’s no small feat for someone afraid of heights, like Bromstad is. But he shared that his tears weren’t just about the relief of making it to the top.
“This wasn’t just a climb for me, this was something so much more,” he wrote in one of his posts. “I’ve been thru a lot the last few years, which I will share when I’m ready, and this was incredibly symbolic for me.”
“I could honestly stand on any step and put my arms out and close my eyes and feel present in that moment,” he wrote. “The dread turned into accomplishment which in turned made my cry. I sat and let the tears rolled down my face and felt that beautiful emotion.”
“Letting go of passed mistakes and regrets,” he continued. “Letting theses moments pass thru me has given me a intense clarity Building foundations! Feels good to be present, sober and living the life I was intended to live.”
