Dave and Jenny Marrs of HGTV’s “Fixer to Fabulous” recently disagreed about one interesting home design feature — a catio. While Dave doesn’t see it catching on, he respected the homeowner’s desire for the pet-friendly space.

While a catio might not be for everyone, some cat owners love the idea of a space in their home dedicated to their feline friends.

In the January 7 episode of “Fixer to Fabulous,” a client requested a catio for their Bentonville, Arkansas home. A catio is an enclosed space for cats that lets the pets enjoy the outdoors. The cat enclosure keeps the animals safe while also providing some outside exposure.

In an interview with Realtor.com, Dave revealed his true feelings about catios, while Jenny argued that the feature could become a home trend.

“I think it could [catch on], honestly,” Jenny said. She pointed out that the space can also be used for humans, rather than being just a pet enclosure. “It’s basically a sunroom, so it is an addition; but it’s not a huge thing, and they don’t necessarily have to use it as a catio.”

She added, “I think it’s going to be a big thing in the world, the catio.”

Dave disagreed, however, saying simply, “It is not going to be.”

During a January interview with TV Insider, Dave shared how important the catio element was for the homeowner. “Her life’s mission is to foster and to help animals in need. Most people, myself included, would never think of adding something like that to my home,” he explained. “But it’s not my home. It was something that was important to her and impactful to her. We did it.”

Dave & Jenny Marrs Adopted a Cat After Filming the Catio Episode

Even though Dave doesn’t get the appeal of a catio, the experience of installing one on “Fixer to Fabulous” led to the family adopting a cat they named Lloyd.

“The catio is how we found Lloyd because Holly — who we built the catio for [on the show] — had texted me a photo of her new foster kittens enjoying the catio, and one of those foster kittens was Lloyd,” Jenny told Realtor.com.

“I was like, ‘He’s so cute! Can I adopt him?’ That’s actually how we were connected with Lloyd, was because of the catio.”

Lloyd has quickly become a beloved family member.

“[Lloyd] is super fun,” Jenny shared. “He is just either wild, crazy, or passed out asleep. There’s no in-between. The kids all love him. Dave pretends that he didn’t want Lloyd, but he is out every morning playing with Lloyd in the living room and they’re super close.”

She continued, “He’s here shaking his head, and that’s not true. He loves the little kitten. How can you not love a kitten? He’s doing great. His favorite toy is our dog Banana’s tail, which I don’t think Banana very much appreciates so much but that’s OK.”
