Courteney Cox’s Renovation Realization

Courteney Cox says she owes her FRIEND a phone call! After appearing on the latest episode of HGTV’s “Celebrity IOU,” the “Friends” star says the renovation show was harder than she thought it would be.

Cox, 60, recounted during the March 3 episode, “In watching Lisa’s episode, I remember going, ‘Ah, Lisa, I can do that, that’s…’ but cut herself off. She then switched gears, saying, “No. I’m really proud of her and I will call her on the way home.”

Courteney Cox Helps Close Friend With Home Makeover

Cox got her hands dirty and then some when she set out to help her dogwalker turned close friend, Marisa, who is expecting a baby.

But wielding a sledgehammer to rip down cabinets and bust through walls turned out to be harder than she expected. “It’s not near as easy as I thought,” she says. “You’re not playing. I used to think of myself as a pretty strong little scrapper. Guess what? That’s a serious job,” Cox explained in the episode.

At one point, as she and Property Brothers Jonathan and Drew Scott work to pull down kitchen cabinets, Drew says, “You don’t really need me here.” Courteney quickly replies, “No, no! I want you here. I don’t need to be here!”

Courteney Cox Explains Why She Wanted to Do ‘Celebrity IOU’

According to Jonathan and Drew Scott’s blog, Cox first met Marisa in 2020 when Courteney hired her as her dog-walker. But their business agreement quickly turned to a close friendship.

“Something about Marisa—she has swagger, she’s just cool. She cares about everybody… She’s just a real giver, and so that’s why I really wanted to do this,” Cox says.

With the help of the Scott brothers, Cox set out to make sure Marisa’s new space felt “calm and serene” for not just her, but also for wife Annie, who is expecting a baby, and their toddler June.

Cox and the Scotts transformed Marisa’s first floor kitchen and living space into a place where Marisa can feel at ease while cooking and hosting guests. The trio showed off the renovation in an Instagram post spoofing Friends.

That transformation got an emotional response from Marisa. “My life has changed so much from meeting you—you’ve given so much to me, and not just physical things. Just being there for me, and just making me realize my worth… Doing this for me, you’re changing my life, and I don’t even know what I did to deserve any of this,” Marisa says.

Lisa Kudrow Calls ‘Celebrity IOU’ Episode “Life-Changing”

Fellow “Friends” co-star Lisa Kudrow echoes that sentiment when talking about her episode of “Celebrity IOU.”

Kudrow, now 61, joined the Scott brothers in season three, when the trio renovated her cousin and best friend Thea’s condo.

“Thea is my cousin but feels like my soul sister,” Kudrow said of the episode. “She doesn’t really ask for help, ever. And I know she needs a pet-friendly place, so this is just the best thing ever, because Thea means a lot to me.”

“Being able to do this for Thea means everything and it will be perfect for her and her fur family,” she added. “It will absolutely change her life.”

She also agrees with Cox that there’s nothing easy about doing the show. In an Instagram post promoting her episode in 2022, Kudrow wrote, “Tonight on #ciou I risk extreme danger for Cousin Thea.”
