HGTV star Christina Haack admits that working with her ex-husband, Tarek El Moussa, and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, on “The Flip Off” can be challenging. The biggest problem, however, has everything to do with how competitive they all are.
Christina Haack Addresses ‘Pressure’ They Face on ‘The Flip Off’
In a February 2025 interview with The Associated Press, the trio talked about working together on “The Flip Off” and Christina noted the biggest challenge they face.
The HGTV star explained that the competitive element of their show is far different than the typical house flipping experience.
“The biggest amount of pressure is trying to out-design each other,” she said. “Normally with a house flip, you’re just designing it for the neighborhood and you know, you can paint or knock down some walls, but like you’re not trying to overdo it.”
Christina admitted, “During the process, we got so competitive with each other, we definitely all overspent.”
Tarek El Moussa’s Best Advice for House Flipping Success: Keep Emotion Out of It
When asked about his claim that he’s the king of flipping houses, Tarek said that he’s earned the title because he’s learned from numerous mistakes over the years.
“I’ve learned a lot of lessons through experience. You know, I’ve done about 1,000 deals at this point,” he explained. “And every time you make a mistake, every time you lose a dollar, every time you get burned, it’s a lesson. And you keep stacking those lessons.”
Tarek added, “I am so excited about the future because all those lessons are paying off.”
His wife Heather Rae has learned a lot about flipping houses as well and said that Tarek’s words of wisdom have helped her greatly.
“He always says to keep the emotion out of it because I think you can get so stuck on when things go wrong with a flip,” she noted. “In the beginning, I would be so mad if one thing went wrong. Tarek’s like, ‘You have to move on. You can’t dwell on the small things. Take emotion out of the flip.'”
In a February 18 Instagram post, Heather Rae shared how her confidence has grown. “I’ve realized just how much I’m capable of — this flip was a huge step for me. No designer, no second opinions (except hubby) just me trusting my instincts and making every decision along the way.”
She explained how the flip “pushed me outside my comfort zone in ways I didn’t expect.” Overall, Heather Rae said she “felt so proud — not just of the design, but of myself.”
The HGTV star added, “This journey has taught me to trust myself more, to take risks, and to believe in what I can create.”
