50 is looking good on Chip Gaines! The former HGTV “Fixer Upper” star showed off a new healthy outlook as he shared his strategy for staying young in this chapter of life.
Chip Gaines: ‘I Feel Better Today Than I Have in Years’
On January 27, Chip took to Instagram to give fans a peek at what he’s up to in his 50th year of life. Hint: he’s focusing on his health, along with his wife, Joanna Gaines.
In the photo, Chip smiles, sporting a backward baseball cap, alongside a couple of boxes of Cwench Hydration. Joanna is spotted in the background cooking.
“This is what it looks like to ‘try and get into shape’ at 50,” he explained in the caption. “[Trainer] @donsaladino has got his work cut out for him because I haven’t ‘worked out’ since college (unless running counts) and I’m the worst at drinking enough water …. but he’s kicking my butt and helping me stay hydrated with @cwenchhydration — and I’ve gotta say that I feel better today than I have in years! #Go50.”
Fans flooded the comments, talking about Chip’s new healthy look and perspective. “Good for you!!!” one person wrote. “Stay healthy, feel good and live longer!”
Another fan noted, “Running more than counts.” Others agreed, with one pointing out, “Didn’t you just run a marathon Chip? I think that more than just counts!”
Others cheered him on with comments like, “Let’s go chip!!,” “Keep it up!,” and “Wow! So proud of you and @joannagaines.”
His trainer chimed in as well, writing, “So proud of you brother. Let’s go chip!!!!”
Joanna Gaines Shared Details of Her New Hobby With Chip
In a January 2025 interview with People, Joanna shared how she and Chip were moving into a new stage of their marriage. The couple decided to tackle fitness together, which they had never done before.
“We joke that we’ve known each other for 25 years and we’ve never once worked out together,” she explained.
Joanna continued, “Last year I said, ‘Chip, let’s start working out because I want to be young for the kids.’ I feel like every choice I make now will affect me at 70, and I don’t want to wait until I’m 70 to be like, ‘Oops I need to fix some stuff.'”
Working on an exercise routine was the perfect solution. “It’s a totally different thing for us,” Joanna said. “We’ve never worked out together before and now we do.”
So far, it’s been a great experience, as she noted that working with a virtual trainer in their home gym has been beneficial. “It’s just us pushing each other and holding each other accountable,” she said. “It’s been this whole other thing, and it feels good to do it.”
Joanna added, “So it’s been fun — we’ve done so much together in the past that it’s like this whole new stage in our marriage.”
