Six huge Hollywood stars will appear on a new season of HGTV’s hit show “Celebrity IOU,” the network announced via press release on January 6, 2025. The series gives celebrities a chance to work with Drew and Jonathan Scott on a surprise renovation project for someone in their life who needs it, as a way to show their gratitude for them.
The February 3 season premiere will feature actor Rob Lowe. Other stars slated to appear on the new season are “Friends” alum Courteney Cox, Oscar nominee Andy Garcia, Hollywood legend Goldie Hawn, Golden Globe winner Kyle MacLachlan and comedian Sarah Silverman.
Rob Lowe Says Taking a Sledgehammer to His Assistant’s Kitchen Was ‘Amazing’
According to HGTV, the season premiere, Lowe will surprise his friend and assistant of 27 years, Carol — whom he calls an “integral part” of his family — by knocking on her door with a mariachi band and the Scott brothers in tow. Lowe will work with them to give Carol the “stylish and functional kitchen and living areas she’s always wanted,” HGTV said.
However, there’s one major wrinkle to overcome. When Jonathan gets sick, Lowe has to “step out of his comfort zone and go full throttle with Drew,” HGTV said, helping him lay new flooring, hang white oak cabinets and install luxury porcelain countertops. The final result will include custom features like a pass-through window from the kitchen to Carol’s backyard and a built-in banquette.
“Look, I fake demo things on “9-1-1: Lone Star,” Lowe says in a preview HGTV released on social media about his FOX drama about first responders in Austin, Texas.
“I have a sledgehammer (prop) that weighs half of what one weighs,” he says of the tool he’s given to help with demolition in Carol’s kitchen. “And I’m like, ‘Oh, this is real! We’re really doing this.’ Swinging that sledgehammer was amazing. It was amazing! And everything’s so explosive.”
“You can give somebody a gift, but to change someone’s home is next level,” he says.
‘Celebrity IOU’ Has Been a Huge Hit for HGTV Since 2020

“Celebrity IOU” has been a huge hit since its debut in April 2020, with Brad Pitt as the show’s first featured celebrity. Over the last eight seasons, other stars who have renovated spaces for dear friends and family members on the show have included Melissa McCarthy, Viola Davis, Justin Hartley, Kris Jenner, Kevin Hart, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cindy Crawford, Zoe Saldana, and Drew Barrymore.
The most recent season, which first aired in August and September 2024, drew nearly 10 million viewers, per HGTV.
“I tell people every day that Drew and I have the greatest job in the world,” Jonathan said in the network’s latest press release. “We feel lucky that we’re able to give these Hollywood powerhouses an opportunity to share a side of themselves you don’t usually see, while also changing someone’s life.”
Drew added, “Part of what makes ‘Celebrity IOU’ great is that the stories are so unique and diverse. The celebrities have known their loved ones for years, so there’s a lot of history there. They get the satisfaction of doing something for someone they love, and it feels amazing that Jonathan and I get to be the conduits for that.”
The new season of HGTV’s “Celebrity IOU” debuts on February 3 at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
