Plenty of HGTV stars have hosted the annual “White House Christmas” special, including Alison Victoria and Property Brothers Drew and Jonathan Scott. This year, the honor went to “100 Day Dream Home” stars Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt. The couple spoke with EntertainmentNOW about their holiday collaboration with with Louis Jadot wines and No Story Lost, and told us what it was like filming the tour of White House’s Christmas decorations.
“That is a dream come true. I am obsessed with Christmas so what better house to decorate than the White House,” Mika shared. “But I think the energy from the volunteers [was the best part], because there was like 300 volunteers there. And these people didn’t know each other and it was just amazing to feel the joy in the room, but also a collaboration of all these different personalities that have never met that are just smiling from ear to ear because they’re decorating the White House. I think it was really, really cool interacting with all of the volunteers.”
The full “White House Christmas” special is now streaming on Max.
Brian Kleinschmidt Describes Watching ‘White House Christmas’ Back
Brian added to his wife’s thoughts, telling us, “So when we watched it back the other night with America it didn’t even feel like us on there. It’s still so surreal and we’re still pinching ourselves that we got the chance to do it but the White House is bigger and better, more beautiful than I’d imagined. And like Mika said, everybody was so nice. And it’s going to be a memory that we never forget, and we definitely need to add that into our next book. It’s a lifetime highlight for us.”
Not only did Mika mentioned how cool it was to see the volunteers carry out the Christmas vision, but she also talked about getting to meet First Lady Jill Biden. “And the First Lady was so sweet, she gave us a gift. It was kind of surreal. We were like, are we really at the White House right now?” She said.
Brian & Mika Kleinschmidt Are Hard at Work on ‘100 Day Dream Home’ Season 6
After the holiday season, Brian and Mika will be going right back to work on their HGTV show “100 Day Dream Home”, which they’ve wrapped filming season 5 of and started production on season 6. They told us there are some series firsts coming in the new seasons when they air, including a Habitat for Humanity house and a converted storage crate house.
“Back in college I volunteered a lot with Habitat for Humanity, and that’s kind of where I fell in love with new construction,” Brian shared. “And I knew I always wanted to get back to that and highlight that organization since it’s a really great one. And we’ve been pitching the idea of doing a Habitat for Humanity house for five, now six, seasons, and it’s finally happening.”
