Longtime HGTV star Ben Napier is finally getting some relief years after first injuring his ankle, which his wife and “Home Town” co-star Erin Napier says has since been “eaten up with arthritis.” The couple and their kids — daughters Helen, 7, and Mae, 4 — just returned from a summer 2025 trip to Scotland, where she said hiking was particularly “rough” for Ben.
Although Ben’s orthopedist recommended surgery, Erin posted on July 29, 2025, that her big brother — physical therapist Clark Rasberry — has found success with a treatment called stemwave that has drastically reduced Ben’s pain.
Captioning a video of Rasberry treating his brother-in-law, Erin wrote, “stemwave is a thing that exists and it’s somehow actually helping @scotsman.co’s ankle he destroyed playing basketball years ago. his ortho doc says he needs an ankle replacement it’s so eaten up with arthritis now, but my big brother and this magic machine at @optimal_performance_pt has taken his pain from a 12 to a 4. WHAT IS THIS VOODOO? have yall heard of this? ps. not sponsored, just amazed”
Ben Napier Calls Brother-in-Law’s Treatments ‘Amazing’
In addition to the video of Rasberry working on Ben at his Optimal Performance physical therapy practice — based in their hometown of Laurel, Mississippi — Erin included 2011 photos of Ben’s swollen and bruised ankle.
StemWave is a relatively new non-invasive modality, according to the StemWave website, featuring an “electrohydraulic system that sends focused waves to activate connective tissue, relieve minor aches and pains and temporarily increase localized blood circulation.”
When one of Erin’s followers asked how Ben handled hiking in Scotland, she replied, “9 mile hike was ROUGH on that ankle. he had his first stemwave session the week after we got home and he can’t get over how it’s helping”
Replying to another fan curious about Ben’s treatments, Erin wrote, “his treatment plan is twice a week for 6 weeks”
Ben shared Erin’s post in his Instagram Stories on July 29 and wrote, “It is amazing. I cannot brag enough.”
Ben Napier Also Saw His Brother-in-Law to Help With 2023 Shoulder Surgery
This is not the first time Ben has seen his brother-in-law for physical therapy. In January 2023, Rasberry helped Ben with ongoing shoulder pain that had been bothering him for years. Ben did have rotator cuff surgery that spring, but was able to prepare for it and heal well afterwards with physical therapy.
Erin shared on social media at the time that she loved attending his physical therapy sessions because it gave her a chance to see her brother, who followed in their dad’s footsteps. She wrote at the time that Rasberry “was brave enough to step out in faith and left the hospital where our dad retired from to became a partner in a physical therapy clinic last year.”
“I can’t tell you what a wonder physical therapy is if you’ve never seen its effectiveness,” she continued. “The way my brother knows what exercises can heal an injury is like a kind of magic. Like seeing daddy do his work as a young man all over again. Maybe y’all are sentimental about a family profession too? I’ve always loved that the men in mine know how to heal people with their hands.”
Erin paid tribute to her dad and his profession on Instagram when he retired in 2019, writing, “Every girl loves and is proud of her daddy I suppose, but mine is extra special. For 44 years he has been helping people learn to walk again, or how to play sports again, or how to begin a new life after major surgery.”
With two decades of experience, Erin’s brother joined Optimal Performance Physical Therapy in December 2021, according to the clinic’s Instagram account.
