HGTV stars Ben and Erin Napier opened up about parenting two young girls in a December 27 interview with Fox News while promoting the upcoming season of their hit HGTV show “Home Town”, which premieres Sunday, December 29. During the interview, Ben revealed that he is in a “constant state of fear” when it comes to raising 6-year-old Helen and 3-year-old Mae.
“Growing up, I had three brothers, and I know exactly how to handle boys,” Ben told the outlet. “I am in a constant state of fear with two little girls and wanting to discipline, but how far?”
“But not crush their spirit,” Erin added, with Ben continuing, “and also not make them terrified of me.”
“I feel like with boys, it’s okay to have a healthy amount of fear of your father,” Ben added. “With girls it’s like, I need them to know that they can call on me with anything. I’m just not used to being around little girls… it is really hard.”
Erin Napier Understands Her Husband’s Fears
Erin understood Ben’s fears, sharing, “I’ve been [a girl] my whole life… I’m trying my best, but it’s hard. Parenting is the hardest job in the world. Everybody knows that… We’ve never been parents before. We’re still learning every single day. Learning how to do our jobs well and be the best parents possible is always the biggest challenge.”
The Napiers also went on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna to promote their show, and opened up about how they parent better as a unit than on their own.
“We’re always together as a family of four,” Erin said. “And Mommy and Daddy are always one unit. We work together, so when we’re home, we’re home together. Our schedules the same. So when it does happen [that I’m alone with the girls] it’s ‘Where’s Daddy?'”
“‘I don’t want you, I want Mommy,'” Ben added, mimicking something he’s heard from their girls.
Ben & Erin Napier Appreciate Each Other’s Parenting
While Ben and Erin aren’t trying to hide their fears as it comes to parenting, they are also generous with the appreciation they share with each other.
Erin took to Instagram on December 15 with a photo of Ben hugging their two girls and wrote in the caption, “not that they care, but he fixed the dishwasher today 😍 also, anyone else in the back row with your wiggly children?”
Ben shared his own photos of Erin holding Helen and Mae in an embrace on Mother’s Day 2024 with the caption, “#HappyMamasDay to our favorite. The only one I’d do this with.”
