Christmas came early this year for the husband of HGTV star Shea Hicks-Whitfield.
On December 7, 2024, Evan Thomas and Keith Bynum’s trusted “Bargain Block” realtor posted a video of her pulling off an epic surprise for Terry Whitfield. The lifelong Detroit Lions fan was bowled over as he opened an NFL jersey signed with a message to him from Lions legend Herman Moore — a surprise he later called “one of the best gifts I’ve EVER received.”
Captioning the fun video, Hicks-Whitfield wrote, “#SupriseSuprise Kudos to thee @DetroitLionsNFL Legend @HermanMoore84 We appreciate your efforts in making this experience possible for one of your biggest fans. As you see, Terry’s day has been made! Herman is one of the kindest, most down-to-earth individuals I have ever met! Thank you, sir. 🏈💙🙌🏾🦁”
Shea Hicks-Whitfield’s Husband Had the Best Reaction to Opening Detroit Lions Jersey
In the video Hicks-Whitfield posted, her husband — already wearing a Lions stocking cap and jacket as he sat next to their Christmas tree — looked astonished as he realized what was in the package she handed him.
As he pulled the light blue jersey out, with Moore’s name and number 84 on the back, he burst into excited laughter and exclaimed, “What!? Oh my goodness! Oh wow!”
He lifted up the jersey to show the inscription on the back written by Moore: “4x Pro Bowl, 3x All-Pro, Pride of the Lions 2018, ALL GRIT.” He also wrote “To Terry” along with his signature.
“That is awesome,” Whitfield said. “Big Herm! Thank you, sir! Thank you, Shea.”
He then looked at the camera to address Moore and joked, “Did we just become best friends? Yup!!”
Moore popped into the comment section the day after Hicks-Whitfield posted the video and wrote, “From one baller to another! Wish you and your family the best of holidays!”
Whitfield replied, “Sir!!! This is one of the best gifts I’ve EVER received. I was born and raised a Lions fan. At age 5, I had a Billy Sims uniform, with the helmet. Every team you played on had a chance at greatness because of your greatness. The consummate professional, Detroit is blessed to have you as one of our biggest stars 🌟 🤩 You da man, my friend!!”
Shea Hicks-Whitfield Knew Her Gift Would Be Extra Special Given Her Husband’s Past Work With the Team
Whitfield, a positive youth development advocate, was honored by the Detroit Lions organization in 2023 for his work as the partnership manager at The Skillman Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping Detroit kids thrive. He shared the honor on Instagram, with a photo of the Lions Heart Award he received “in appreciation for your continued support of the Detroit City Lions football and cheer organization.”
After attending the awards ceremony with his wife and their toddler, Beau, by his side, Whitfield wrote in the caption that he was thrilled about the three-year partnership with the team to expand resources to help local youth thrive, writing, “Kids like me… like Shea … like Beau James… like Catherine… like so many well-adjusted adults who positively impact our communities every day.”
“Football was a major influence in my life growing up, he continued. “It steeled me, taught me valuable life lessons that reverberate around me, every day, serving as the bedrock of who I am. The opportunity to partner with sports programs across Detroit who engage black and brown boys and girls has been a point of pride and honor for me. Creating partnerships that lessen the burden on working families so their young men can engage and learn the lessons I lean on to this day is humbling… reflecting on this reality, I shed a tear while standing backstage waiting to receive the award.”
Whitfield’s commitment to the impact of sports on himself and other kids made his wife’s gift all the more special. When someone in the comment section of her post suggested that the couple frame Moore’s signed jersey, Hicks-Whitfield replied, “Yes ma’am! He’s already selected a wall location to hang it! 😁💙🥰”
