‘When Calls the Heart’ Cast & Crew Mourn Beloved Colleague’s Sudden Passing: ‘We Loved You’

For the second time in a year, the cast and crew of Hallmark Channel’s hit series “When Calls The Heart” have lost one of their own.

On May 2, 2025, WCTH production manager Mike Magnusson announced via social media that the show was mourning the death of Nathaniel “Nate” Pelletier, a beloved member of the show’s transportation department. Pelletier cared for and drove the set’s old-fashioned wagons and vehicles, and appeared on multiple episodes of the show as a taxi driver, per IMDb.

Sharing a photo of the program from Pelletier’s May 2 memorial service, Magnusson wrote, “We lost a member of our WCTH family, Nate Pelletier … Nate was all heart, a true ‘Unicorn,’ smashing every 14 hour day with a wide smile & endless cheer for all. He ‘saw’ people, and was always there with a kind word. He leaves a void of spirit we will not be able to replace. Nate you were one of a kind, and we loved you. You will be sorely missed my friend.”

Pelletier died suddenly on April 11 at age 53, per his obituary, leaving the WCTH cast and crew in mourning for the second time in a year. In July, lost longtime director Neill Fearnley died after a long battle with ALS.

‘When Calls The Heart’ Cast Remembers Nathaniel Pelletier, Who Left Behind a Daughter

Multiple cast members left comments on Magnusson’s post, including Johannah Newmarch, who plays Molly Sullivan on the series.

“Thank you for your bright and kind spirit dearest Nate,” she wrote. “I so enjoyed our warm friendship and your loss is devastating to our WCTH family. Holding you tenderly in my heart and praying you journey in light and love. ✨🙏❤️”

Andrea Brooks, who plays Dr. Faith Carter, left a brokenhearted emoji and Natasha Burnett, who plays Minnie Canfield, commented with two emoji — “😢😢”

According to Pelletier’s obituary, he died “alone at home in Langley BC” and is survived by his “greatest love,” daughter Myhrsades (Murray) Jones as well as his brothers and parents.

“His second greatest love was his work and work-family,” Pelletier’s obituary read, noting that he “touched many lives with his generosity and extraordinary work ethic.”

Hallmark Post Says Nathaniel Pelletier ‘Loved Interacting With the Fans’

On May 3, Hallmark’s WCTH Instagram account paid tribute to Pelletier with a photo taken by Krista Petrie, one of many Hearties who got to know Pelletier during visits to the set of “When Calls The Heart” in Langley. He was a frequent presence at the annual Hearties Family Reunion, held for fans each summer.

In addition to sharing Magnusson’s words about Pelletier, the post said, “We know many #Hearties also had the privilege of meeting Nate at the Hearties Family Reunion (HRH). He loved interacting with the fans and he brought so much joy to the day. We’d love for you to share your memories in the comments below. ❤️ We’re sending love to all who knew and loved him. He will be missed greatly.”

Within hours, many fans had already left notes of sympathy and memories of Pelletier, including one who wrote, “When I introduced myself to him at #HFR2024 he greeted me like a long lost friend which I thought was so special. You could tell immediately how much he loved this time to connect with  #Hearties and share his passion with all of us. He will be missed.”

Another shared, “So sorry to hear about your loss. When you lose a person like Nate, it puts a hole in your heart that remains for a long time. My prayers are with all of you! 🙏🏻”

“So sorry to hear this news,” another fan wrote on Magnusson’s post. “He was such an integral part of the WCTH family and I loved seeing him embrace the Hearties these past years. He brought so much joy to the fans. ❤️ Thinking of you all and sending love.”

Pelletier’s family asked that in lieu of sending flowers, donations be made to Joshua’s House in his honor.
