Two-and-a-half months after giving birth to daughter Lyle-Josephine Alina LaPine, Hallmark Channel star and “Chicago Med” alum Torrey DeVitto has a bone to pick with anyone who says new moms’ bodies typically “bounce back” within three months of delivery.
“That is such (expletive),” DeVitto told her one-million Instagram followers in one of two videos she posted to her Stories on February 5, 2025, hoping to inspire other new moms to be gentle with themselves.
“I still look very pregnant,” the “Love’s Greek to Me” star admitted, sitting in her newborn’s nursery at the Michigan home she shares with her husband, Jared LaPine. “I actually even went to a workout class the other day and the teacher said, ‘Oh, are you still pregnant or did you have your baby yet?'”
After taking a comedic pause to let her fans process that tidbit, DeVitto smiled and said, “But that’s fine, because my body did a miraculous thing and it’s gonna do what it wants to do afterwards!”
DeVitto, 40, added that when she scrolls through Instagram, she notices posts “all the time” with the theme “bounce back, bounce back, bounce back,” and told her fans, “Nobody has to (expletive) bounce back. Be where you are an d be happy with it. I struggle with that, but I’m trying to hold myself accountable, so I thought maybe I’d share that, too.”
Torrey DeVitto Admits She Quickly Gave Up on 2025 Goal to Read ‘A Course in Miracles’ Daily
In the first video DeVitto posted on February 5, she acknowledged that she rarely hops onto social media to talk to her fans, but felt compelled to stick up for fellow moms feeling pressured to reach unattainable goals.
DeVitto started by sharing that she quickly gave up on a personal goal she’d previously shared — reading the daily guidance in the book “A Course in Miracles,” a popular “spiritual self-study program” that was first published in 1975.
Explaining that she thought her anecdote was “funny and important to share,” DeVitto said, “So, remember how the first of the year, I said, ‘Oooh I’m gonna do ‘Course in Miracles’ again every day, let’s see how far I get!'”
She continued, “Well, I’m sure maybe some of you looked at that and said, ‘Oh my god, she just became a new mom, how does she have time for a spiritual practice? I don’t have time for a spiritual practice! Oh God, my life sucks! Everyone on Instagram’s just so perfect!’ Because that’s what I think when I see all these people, like, ‘This is what I eat in a day, this is what I do in a day.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, like I am failing at life!'”
“Well, I want you to know you’re not,” DeVitto smiled, “because I got to about Day eight or nine (of the program), and not even consecutive days, just eight or nine, and I totally crapped out. I gave up. Already. Before February started, I was done.”
“So, yeah. Nobody has it all figured out,” DeVitto laughed and, giving her fans a thumbs up said, “You’re doing great!”
Over her video, DeVitto added in text, “I’m also sitting awkwardly in my daughter’s rocking chair so I can face the window to get that extra glow…I cringed when I looked in the camera facing the other way 😂 We are all in this together!”
Torrey DeVitto Has Been Open About the Challenges of Pregnancy & Motherhood
This is not the first time DeVitto has vulnerably shared the hurdles she’s faced during her pregnancy and postpartum journey as a first-time mom.
The “Pretty Little Liars” alum, whose first Hallmark role was 2014’s “Best Christmas Party Ever,” has been open in interviews and on social media about how surprised she was by the physical demands of pregnancy and the struggles of adjusting to life with a newborn.
In an honest Instagram Story posted on January 3, DeVitto listed the challenges that she was dealing with six weeks into motherhood, writing, “I’m exhausted. I still look pregnant … I haven’t figured out how to care for a baby and dress myself while Jared’s at work yet.”
“Trying to do it all and push through discomfort while my body is still healing from an extremely traumatic delivery,” she continued. “Trying to ask for support while not freaking out that anyone who walks through the door will get my baby sick (flu season 🙄). Wondering how I’ll ever blend my old life with this new life.”
But all of the challenges have been worth it, DeVitto has been sure to share.
“This [expletive] is hard,” she admitted in her January 3 Instagram Stories. “But I wouldn’t change it for the world! I’m obsessed with this little girl.”
