Torrey DeVitto’s Husband Details Her Difficult Pregnancy & Labor: ‘Completely Terrified Me’

Actress Torrey DeVitto’s husband, Jared LaPine, has shared how proud and awestruck he was watching her become a first-time mom, marveling at the Hallmark star’s resilience through a challenging pregnancy and delivery.

On December 21, 2024, the 40-year-old “Chicago Med” alum revealed via social media that she and LaPine, whom she married on September 14, had welcomed their first child, a baby girl, a month earlier. LaPine shared on his Instagram feed that their daughter was born on November 21 and was named Lyle-Josephine Alina LaPine.

DeVitto, 40, had previously shared on social media and in interviews how difficult her pregnancy was. But after their baby’s birth, LaPine detailed in his own post about the nine months of extreme challenges she faced, calling DeVitto’s labor “a struggle like nothing I have never seen.”

Torrey DeVitto’s Husband Calls Her a ‘Beautiful, Strong, Amazing Woman’ After Daughter’s Birth

On November 7, two weeks before her daughter’s birth, DeVitto talked on “The Mother Daze” podcast about some of the difficulties she was facing in her pregnancy.

“I feel like everything that could possibly happen is happening,” she said, laughing. “I can’t breathe, my acid reflux is on fire, I’ve been nauseous the whole time, and my swelling is out of control.”

In an Instagram post on November 23, LaPine opened up about witnessing his wife’s resilience throughout the nine months, writing, “As I sit on my hospital bed, watching my wife hold our gorgeous newborn baby girl, I would like to take a moment to praise this beautiful, strong, and amazing woman.”

“The past 9 months of her pregnancy, I have watched my wife put our baby first in EVERYTHING she has done,” LaPine continued. “I have watched countless nights of no sleep, excruciating acid-reflux, horrible aversions, and intense hormones 😬.”

LaPine went on to say that their daughter’s delivery was just as harrowing. DeVitto shared on a July episode of the “Broad Ideas” podcast, that she was due on November 24. In LaPine’s post, he said that she was induced at 7:30 a.m. on November 18, but that baby Lyle-Josephine didn’t arrive until November 21 at 4:19pm.

“It was a struggle like nothing I have ever seen before and it completely terrified me,” he admitted. “Torrey is the strongest person I have ever met. Period.”

Torrey DeVitto’s Mom Calls Her a ‘Warrior’ After Difficult Pregnancy & Labor

In LaPine’s post about DeVitto’s challenging pregnancy, labor and delivery, he wrote, “She did all of this of this so that our little girl would be healthy as humanly possible. She succeeded tremendously.”

“Today we get to take that beautiful girl to her new home,” he wrote in the November 23 post. “I am so lucky I get to watch and learn from the best mother in the world. What a special gift that is and thank you for making me a dad! I love BOTH of you girls with everything I have.”

In the comment section, DeVitto replied, “Couldn’t do any of this without you ! ❤️”

DeVitto moved to Michigan during the pandemic to be closer to family, including her mom Mary Torrey-DeVitto, who responded to LaPine’s post by writing, “So beautifully said!! Torrey’s was a warrior during her entire pregnancy , but especially through labor. The reward was the greatest gift of all, our precious beautiful girl. Love you three so very much. 💝”
