The Hallmark Channel’s newest movie, “The Reluctant Royal,” premieres on Saturday, March 8, at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Central. The movie stars Andrew Walker and Emilie de Ravin. Read on to learn all about where it was filmed and behind-the-scenes stories from the cast involved.
‘The Reluctant Royal’ Was Filmed in Ireland
In an interview with Entertainment NOW, Walker revealed that “The Reluctant Royal” was filmed entirely in Ireland. After filming wrapped, he and his wife Cassandra Troy took a vacation of their own and explored the west coast of Ireland.
The castle featured in the movie, called Glasswick Castle in the script, is actually Luttrellstown Castle Resort in Dublin, Swooon reported.
Luttrellstown Castle is available for “private hire” as a wedding venue, gala dinner, family reunion or corporate event, according to its website. It’s on a 567-acre estate and dates back to the 15th century. The estate also has a modern clubhouse for those wanting a more contemporary feel. The Luttrell family owned the estate for more than 300 years until 1811. Luke White, a bookseller and businessman, bought the estate in 1829 after the last Luttrell died. Then a member of the Guiness family owned it and did substantial renovations between the 1910s and 1950s. In 1999, David and Victoria Beckham were married here.
“The Reluctant Royal” was filmed in September. De Ravin shared a series of photos on September 22 while she was in Ireland, with the hashtag #work. Her pictures included Johnnie Fox’s, Cat’s Ladder, and picturesque scenery.
In an interview with Swooon, de Ravin said said the movie was beautiful to her.
“It’s such a beautiful study on how differences don’t have to equal conflict,” she said. “There was a little bit of that initially, but if you’re a good person, differences don’t matter.”
De Ravin said she “completely in love with Ireland and the people” while filming.
Some of the stars in the film are based in Dublin, Ireland. Elizabeth Moynihan, for example, plays the role of Lady Eleanor and she is based in Dublin, according to the agency O’Sullivan.
Michael Glenn Murphy is another Irish actor featured in the film, Lisa Richards Agency shared.
