Not a Football Fan? Hallmark & Other TV Alternatives for Super Bowl Sunday

The Super Bowl kicks off Sunday night, February 9, with the Kansas City Chiefs facing the Philadelphia Eagles at 6:30 p.m. Eastern. But if football isn’t your thing, don’t worry—there are plenty of alternative viewing options, even with the Kitten Bowl no longer being around. From a TV series marathon on the Hallmark Channel, to a football movie starring Ryan Paevey and even a few adorable animal “bowl” specials, here’s what you can watch instead.

The synopsis reads: “Sparks are reignited when a single mother and a pro football player coincidentally meet again on her daughter’s flag football field after his career is interrupted by a sports injury.”

Hallmark Mystery has an enticing lineup of encore mystery movies for fans too.

  • 6 p.m. Eastern, “Reality Bites: A Hannah Swensen Mystery”

What About the Kitten Bowl?

Astute Hallmark fans may remember that once upon a time, the Hallmark Channel aired an adorable “Kitten Bowl” event every Super Bowl Sunday. However, the event was canceled in 2022. At the time, a representative told us: “While we are not currently developing original animal-centric programming, Hallmark Channel is pleased to support partners like North Shore Animal League America as part of our commitment to social responsibility initiatives.”

There are two alternatives you can watch, however, if you’re interested in cute animal “bowl” specials on Super Bowl Sunday.

Great American Family is airing the Great American Rescue Bowl on Sunday, February 9, at 12 p.m. Eastern. Hosted by Beth Stern, this even showcases kittens, puppies, cats and dogs.

Or you can watch the Puppy Bowl 2025 on the Discovery Channel.

This three-hour program will feature 142 rescue puppies this year, according to a Warner Bros. Discovery press release.

“With more puppies than ever before, Puppy Bowl XXI will highlight their inspiring journeys from birth to adoption, as well as the tremendous dedication of the rescues and shelters that help find animals their forever homes,” the press release notes.

It will air on Animal Planet, Discovery, TBS and truTV starting at 2 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, February 9. Animal Planet will also air a kickoff program at 1 p.m. Eastern. You can also stream it on Max and Discovery+.
