Hallmark Star Credited With Starting ‘Sexy Christmas Genre’

Sarah Drew is making waves in the Christmas season this year. In addition to headlining Hallmark’s fan-praised holiday murder mystery series, “Mistletoe Murders,” she’s also writing and directing movies for Lifetime that are creating a brand new sexy Christmas genre.

In an interview with GMA3, the hosts were quick to point out that Drew “started the sexy Christmas genre” with her new Lifetime movies. And fans are loving the label.

On Instagram, one fan commented: “Amazing!! So happy for all your behind-the-cam success!!!!!!!!!”

“You are literally the best ❤️❤️,” another fan wrote.

Sarah Drew’s ‘A Cowboy Christmas Romance’ Kicked Off the ‘Sexy Christmas Genre’

In an interview with ABC’s GMA3 that Drew shared on December 3, several of the GMA3 hosts commented about how she started the sexy Christmas genre last year with her movie “A Cowboy Christmas Romance,” and is continuing it with her new movie, “A Carpenter Christmas Romance.”

And Drew agreed wholeheartedly with the sentiment.

When Drew first joined them for her interview, they welcomed her by announcing, “We’re here for sexy Christmas!”

“So are so many people,” Drew joked back. “Why has it taken so long?!”

One of the hosts commented: “You actually started the sexy Christmas genre.” And another host echoed the same.

Drew agreed, joking that her “A Cowboy Christmas Romance” from last year started the genre, and “it did really, really well.”

She was the writer and executive producer for the film.

“It was the first time audiences had seen a sex scene in a holiday movie and clearly they liked it, so I did another one!” she said.

This year, Drew wrote and executive produced “A Carpenter Christmas Romance,” which premieres on Lifetime on December 21.

Lifetime’s synopsis for the movie reads: “Needing a haven where she can finish her novel, Andrea flees to her family’s farmhouse in the town of Wildwood. Much to her surprise, she ends up running into her ex-crush, Seth (Mitchell Slaggert), an artisanal woodworker who’s helping rebuild the town after it was nearly destroyed by a fire. It doesn’t take long for sawdust and sparks of romance fill the air once the two team up and work together to reignite the town’s Christmas spirit. Is this romance just a holiday fling that ends when her trip is over? Or can the two build a love that is made to last?”

Entertainment Weekly reported that Drew is promising lots of spiciness in her new movie too.

“I’m thrilled that Lifetime is supporting us bringing a little more naughty into the nice this holiday season,” Drew said in a statement.

Drew Wrote Her New Movie While Filming ‘Mistletoe Murders’

Drew has been juggling a lot of projects this year. She was working on her new Lifetime film while simultaneously filming for Hallmark.

“I was actually writing ‘A Carpenter Christmas Romance’ on my way to and from work shooting ‘Mistletoe Murders,'” she told GMA3. “So I had to buy myself a lap desk and was doing my rewrites on my lap on my way to work to shoot the other show.”

Drew said she has always been interested in writing and directing in addition to acting.

“I just haven’t been given he opportunity professionally until the first one I wrote, which was called ‘Reindeer Games Homecoming,’ which Lifetime produced, and they let me do a couple more for them,” she said.

The projects have also been fun for Drew because she just loves Christmas.

“I tend to over-elf a bit,” she joked.
