Rachael Leigh Cook is Pumped About Hallmark Channel’s Evolving ‘Sense of Humor’

There’s no disputing Hallmark is the cream of the crop when it comes to churning out romance movies week after week. But longtime rom-com star Rachael Leigh Cook says she loves how the network has upped its comedy game in recent years.

In a series of interviews promoting the new Hallmark Channel movie “Sisterhood, Inc.” — premiering on February 22, 2025 — Cook and co-star Daniella Monet shared lots of laughs with local TV anchors over how fun it was to bring the new comedy to life.

Rachael Leigh Cook Says Hallmark is Proving It Can Produce ‘Really Funny Stuff’

On February 19, while appearing on “Good Day Sacramento,” both stars emphatically agreed with host Courtney Dempsey’s assessment that it’s refreshing to see Hallmark branching out into more comedies.

“I feel like Hallmark is known for their romantic movies, right?” Dempsey said. “But I think it’s fun if there’s something, in this case, comical. There’s a little bit of romance in there, too. But (I like) this whole comical element, where women get to show off, ‘We got a funny bone, too!'”

“So do we,” Monet said passionately. “We love that!”

“Exactly, Courtney,” Cook chimed in. “We love that Hallmark is really sort of showing that they have, you know, a really excellent sense of humor. Everybody knows that they can do ‘heartfelt’ till the cows come home, but they can also do, like, truly funny stuff.”

“We’re obsessed,” Cook said, adding, “and Daniela is hilarious.”

Rachael Leigh Cook Jokes That She Never Wants to ‘Be in Charge’ of Anything in Real Life

Cook’s comedic skills were on full display as she and Monet chatted about how they align with their characters. Cook plays buttoned-up corporate exec Megan, who sets up a board of directors for her disorganized sister Izzy, played by Monet. The premise, Cook revealed in January, is based on an idea a friend gave her while they were joking around about their own disorganized lives.

When “Good Day Sacramento” co-host John Dabkovich asked Cook via satellite which character she’s more like, she replied, “You know, I think I’m a little bit more of an Izzy. I feel a little bit more haphazard.”

“But I did get up and get here on time,” she said of managing to get to the location where she and Monet were filming their satellite interviews. “You can’t see it, but I’m wearing pants. I’m doing pretty good, not to brag!”

In another interview with entertainment reporter Bonnie Laufer, Cook hysterically admitted that she’s not the “take-charge” type of woman her character is — by choice.

“In fairness, you would probably be better served to ask people who, like, live with me or care about me, but I do not want to be in charge of anything,” Cook quipped, feigning distress. “At all!”

Proving she’d prefer to just be told what to do, Cook joked, “Someone told me what time to wake up and I got in a car and now we’re talking. This is all I know, Bonnie! I am a very grateful passenger.”

Cook cracked up Monet by saying she is far more on the ball than her, noting that she’s “the healthiest human I’ve ever met” and that “her kids do, like, cool Amish-style crafts and, like, sound very wholesome.”

“I just, I want to be more like Daniella,” she concluded, to which Monet said, “You know, I think most of us who look like we have it together are really just pretending most of the time.”

“Sisterhood, Inc.” premieres on Hallmark Channel at 8 p.m. Eastern time on February 22 and will be available to stream on Hallmark+ the following day.
