The three-part Hallmark Channel mini-series “Providence Falls,” which premieres on August 2, 2025, has something for everyone, its stars say, from modern-day crime-solving to 19th-century romance. What viewers might not be expecting, Katie Stevens told Us Weekly, are some seriously steamy scenes.
“I was like, ‘Oh, go off Hallmark,'” Stevens said about the first time she read the script’s intimate scenes. “People are going to be very excited about this.”
But one of her co-stars, Lachlan Quarmby, admitted to the outlet he was “terrified” he was going to mess up the intimate moments onscreen.
Katie Stevens Hopes Hallmark Channel Fans Will Love the ‘Romantic Tension Moments’ as Much as She Does
Hallmark Channel’s three-movie special event, based on the “Providence Falls” book series by Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheets, features Stevens as Cora McLeod, an 1844 aristocrat’s daughter in Ireland who is “promised in marriage to a man she barely knows,” per Hallmark’s synopsis. Hallmark regular Evan Roderick plays her future husband Finn Walsh, but Cora winds up falling for charming thief Liam O’Connor, played by Lachlan Quarmby.
Breaking the mold of most Hallmark movies, there’s hot romance within minutes of the first movie that premieres on August 2, which Stevens is excited for Hallmark fans to see.
“I’m such a fan of the romance genre and I know how I feel when I’m watching certain scenes,” Stevens told Us Weekly. “Seeing those kind of romantic tension moments where you’re kind of gripping the side of your chair, like, ‘Will they, won’t they?'”
Quarmby, however, admitted to the outlet, “I was terrified. It’s so scary to see something like that (in a script) and to think, ‘Yeah, well that’s good. Oh wait, I have to be the one to execute this?’ Oh, don’t drop the ball. That’s scary.”
Stevens assured her co-star he did “great,” but admitted she, too, felt “a little bit of pressure” to get those scenes right “because you want to make sure that you do that moment the way that it’s supposed to go and to have people have that reaction. I was just really excited to kind of be the vessel for that story.”
Stars Say ‘Providence Falls’ Has Everything Hallmark Channel Fans Love
Adding to the drama of “Providence Falls,” there’s a time-travel element, too. When Cora and Liam try to escape the castle where she lives with her family, a series of fateful twists causes Liam to wind up nearly 200 years in the future, reconnecting with modern-day Cora, now a police detective. But he’s the only one who remembers their past, as he’s tasked with ensuring she falls in love with her modern “soulmate” Finn.
Stevens told Us Weekly, “It was, like, a bucket list for me to do something that was a romance, a period piece, but it also has elements of mystery, some sci-fi. I was really excited.”
“I think for Hallmark fans in particular, it has all of the great Hallmark anchors: the romance, the interesting story,” Quarmby told Tech Radar. “There’s always some sort of dilemma in a Hallmark as to why they can’t be together, or why they should. There’s a barrier or a hazard or something in the way. We’ve got plenty of that in there as well.
Roderick, who’s also in Hallmark Channel’s August 3 premiere showing of “Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Death at the Diner,” agreed, telling Tech Radar, “There’s something in it for everyone. There’s a cop show, there’s a romance, and there’s a period piece, and pretty much a whodunnit wrapped up in the whole thing. I think if you’re not into at least one of those, you’re going to be into something you find in ‘Providence Falls.'”
“Providence Falls: Chance of a Lifetime” premieres on August 2 at 8 p.m. Eastern time, with movies airing three Saturday nights in a row.
