Fans and friends are rallying around Hallmark actress Lyndie Greenwood, who publicly disclosed on March 17, 2025, that she’s been battling breast cancer for the last six months. To share the news, the “Crimetime: Freefall” star bravely posted a photo of herself on social media, looking radiant but bald due to her chemotherapy treatments.
“Hey there, friends,” Greenwood wrote. “I haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been dealing with some real life stuff. The big C is a doozy! It’s complicated and ever-changing.”
To provide updates on her cancer journey, Greenwood, 42, started a Substack blog, where she revealed she was diagnosed in September and underwent a double mastectomy before beginning chemo.
Lyndie Greenwood Says Her Cancer Treatment Has Not Gone as Easily as Her Doctors Hoped
Greenwood was born and raised in Toronto, per IMDb, but she and her husband of nearly six years, producer Ben Jamieson, live in Joshua Tree, California. However, the “Sleepy Hallow” alum wrote that she was in Vancouver, preparing to film an “indie roadtrip movie,” when she learned of her diagnosis.
According to her first blog post, written in late February, Greenwood’s doctor called from California to inform her that a mass in her right breast “was diagnosed as invasive ductal carcinoma, cribriform type – hormone receptor positive.”
Eighty percent of breast cancers are classified as invasive ductal carcinoma, according to New York Presbyterian Hospital, but cribriform is a rare type found in only 5 to 6% of breast cancers.
Greenwood wrote that she opted to stay in Vancouver to film the movie since her oncologist and surgeon couldn’t see her immediately. She called the shoot “one of the most intense and rewarding experiences of my life.” Once she returned home, Greenwood wrote, she was thrust into a whirlwind of appointments and tests.
“I was told that this type of cancer is an oncologist’s ‘bread and butter’, and for the first time in my life, I felt grateful to be considered boring,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, things haven’t really been as easy-peasy as we had all hoped, and here we are closing out February with a bald head, and many scars (some of which are visible).”
“Treatment so far has been to stop taking birth control, which I started when I was fifteen years old for acne,” Greenwood continued. “Then we opted for a double mastectomy and reconstruction. Now we are doing chemotherapy – four rounds, three weeks apart (with a slight delay that I will elaborate on in another post). When chemo is completed, I can expect (to) be taking hormone-blocking pills for about a decade.”
