In the nearly two weeks since historic wildfires began to devastate communities across Los Angeles, many Hallmark Channel stars have lived up to their reputations as kind-hearted and generous celebs, lifting up friends and strangers in need. From volunteering to sharing the plights of friends who’ve lost everything, here’s how some of your favorite stars — many whom live in L.A. — have been pitching in.
John Brotherton Has Been in the Trenches With ROWW
As an ambassador to Reach Out WorldWide (ROWW), the disaster relief organization founded by late actor Paul Walker, “Christmas on Cherry Lane” star John Brotherton has been deeply involved in helping to collect and donate resources to the families who’ve lost their homes and businesses.
In multiple posts and Instagram Stories, Brotherton has chronicled efforts to pull together donations, from items brought in by locals to Amazon List items purchased by supporters from afar, which still has items needed.
On its website, the organization posted photos and a statement that said, “Our CEO, Cody Walker, and COO, Felicia Walker, have spent the last 48 hours in Altadena and Pasadena, working alongside long-time friend and ROWW supporter, John Brotherton, to provide critical relief, logistical support, and organization to the ongoing recovery efforts.”
ROWW also said it is “committed to returning in the coming weeks and months to help with the recovery and rebuilding process, ensuring that affected communities have the resources they need to recover and rebuild their lives.”
Seeing so many people come out to help, including his wife and daughters, Brotherton said in one of his videos that it was “a testament to the triumph of the human spirit.”
Inspired by Brotherton’s efforts, longtime Hallmark star Andrew Walker, who has a home in Los Angeles, announced that his skincare company, Skin Mason, will donate 20% of its proceeds during the month of January to ROWW.
Hallmark Channel Stars Go to Bat for Friends & Neighbors Who Lost Their Homes
Many Hallmark stars have been continually sharing resources via social media and volunteering in their neighborhoods since the fires broke out on January 7, from Sarah Drew promoting the upcoming Haven For Moms donation event to Kristoffer Polaha sharing his friends’ inspiring story amid their loss and encouraging followers to donate to the Red Cross.
Numerous stars have also shared GoFundMe campaigns for dear friends and family who lost everything in the fires. “Chesapeake Shores” alum Meghan Ory posted a fundraiser for Govind Das and Jacqueline Rosen, whom she wrote in her Stories was “my sweet roommate from our pre-kid days” and lost their family home. That campaign has raised over $154,000 of their $150,000 goal.
When someone set up a GoFundMe for the family of a college student whose Pacific Palisades home burned down, Hallmark actress Catherine Bell shared it in her Stories, noting that his mom is “my BEST friend — this family is my family!! They lost everything in the Palisades fire. Every contribution counts, big or small! ❤️” That campaign is three-quarters of the way to the family’s $75,000 goal.
Despite losing her own home in the fires, “The Chicken Sisters” star Schuyler Fisk shared the GoFundMe campaign for her neighbors, Katrina and Ozan Kordowski Pamir, who lost their home and chocolate business in the fires. At the time of publication, the campaign was nearing its $30,000 goal.
Fisk wrote that the couple lost “all their equipment for making their beautiful healthy handmade chocolates @eatkako which they ran out of their home and sold at farmers markets. They were the most thoughtful neighbors who were always willing to lend a hand or to go the extra mile to help you out.”
At the time of publication on January 20, the LA Times reported that Southern California was bracing for a new threat of extreme weather overnight, with the possibility of high winds spreading new fires.
