Actress Lea Thompson is relishing her newest role, revealing that she’s a first-time grandma. Thompson, who stars on the Hallmark series “The Chicken Sisters,” shared the news via social media on on February 9, 2025.
The “Back to the Future” alum posted a series of photos on Instagram of her newborn granddaughter, writing, “Welcome to this crazy beautiful world little girl. Robbie June Carlisle! I’m a grandmother friends!”
“Such joy and happiness is singing in my heart,” Thompson, 63, continued. “I am so grateful and proud of Maddie and Zach for having the faith and grace to take a chance on love. ❤️ Howie Zoey and I are are over the moon in love. Congratulations Maddie! My baby is a mama….”

Thompson and her husband, movie and TV director Howard Deutch, have grown daughters — actress Zoey Deutch and photographer Madelyn (Maddie) Deutch, who gave birth to baby Robbie on February 2, she shared in her own Instagram post.
Posting a photo from the hospital of her and husband of nearly two years, Zach Carlisle, cradling their newborn, Maddie wrote, “Robbie June Carlisle, 2.2.25. Our rainbow girl. We are so grateful to this magical being – and to our friends and family, for swaddling the three of us in so much unending love.”
Thousands of fans and friends of Thompson have liked her post on Instagram and Facebook — including Hallmark colleagues Melissa Peterman, Holly Robinson Peete, and “The Chicken Sisters” co-stars Genevieve Angelson and Schuyler Fisk — while over 1,000 have left congratulatory messages for the new grandma.

Lea Thompson Recently Gushed Over Her Firstborn Daughter, Who’s Now a Mom Herself
On February 10, Maddie shared a video, taken before she gave birth, of the nursery she designed for her baby girl. The room is filled with vintage decor she has collected over the years, she said, and a recliner so comfortable she joked that she never wanted to get out of it.
In March 2024, Thompson paid tribute to her firstborn in a touching social media post for her birthday, sharing a of herself as a young mom with Maddie in her lap, taken on the Austin, Texas, set of “The Substitute Wife,” noting that Maddie’s outfit showcased her “keen zest for fashion.”
“Motherhood,” she wrote to her daughter. “@maddiedeutch you have been a blessing, a joy, and a learning journey. You are the coolest most multitalented person I know. You take after my mother that way. A writer, a composer, a photographer, an actor, a designer, a singer, a director. We are all so proud of you.”
“It’s a wonder and an honor to come to you for artistic and personal advice,” Thompson continued. “You are thoughtful honest and funny. I love eating your food, creating projects, engaging in abyss based creative thinking, and watching you go through my closet finding something cool to repurpose.”
