Kevin McGarry Shares How He Won Kayla Wallace’s Heart: ‘Made Me Work For It’

At the Hallmark Christmas Experience in Kansas City, “When Calls the Heart” stars visited during the event’s third weekend from December 13-15. Kevin McGarry, who portrays Nathan on the series, was one of the stars attending a panel about the show. During his panel, he shared a sweet story about how he fell for his wife, Kayla Wallace (who portrays Fiona on the show) almost immediately. But it took her a little longer to come around. “She made me work for it,” he said.

McGarry revealed during the panel that although he was smitten by Wallace right away, he had to work to win her heart.

“We met on the show,” he recalled. “The best thing that show has given me is Kayla. I remember her coming out of her trailer. She was on the show actually just before me, I believe. And I remember going to set, meeting everybody. I didn’t know who she was or what she was doing there. And she came out of her trailer and it was just like, cherubs are flying around and doves and I was like, ‘Who is this woman?'”

He joked that Wallace’s first impression of him was that he had long legs.

“I think two years went by and we became really close friends,” McGarry recalled. “And then I asked her out. She said no and made me work for it.”

But he did eventually win her over.

“And you know, it ended up working in my favor…” he said. “It was when we were shooting during COVID, we were lucky to continue to shoot the show. And with it, we had to be in bubbles, you know, groups. And I got lucky enough to be in Kayla’s bubble. So she really couldn’t see too many people other than me!”

McGarry Revealed in September That He & Wallace Were Married

During the annual Hearties reunion in Canada in September, McGarry revealed for the first time that he and Wallace had gotten married.

The host mentioned, ““You’ve got a ring on your finger. I hope it’s not a prop.”

McGarry said it wasn’t a prop and then held up his hand, revealing to the audience that he was wearing a wedding ring.

In December 2022, Wallace announced that she and McGarry had gotten engaged. The video showed her wearing an engagement ring and then panned up to reveal the two kissing.
