After the success of “The Way Home,” a time-traveling series that’s been a big hit among Hallmark viewers, the network is delving into another time travel series. But this time, rather than a TV show, Hallmark has started filming a trilogy of movies centered around a time-travel romance.
‘Providence Falls’ Is Filming in Vancouver
Hollywood North Buzz reported on January 13 that Hallmark had started filming its time travel trilogy of movies, “Providence Falls,” in Vancouver.
The trilogy is based on Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheets’ trilogy of books: “Chance of a Lifetime,” “An Impossible Promise,” and “Thief of Fate.”
The movies are filming in Vancouver, Canada, from January 13 through March 7.
Amazon describes the trilogy as an “‘Outlander’ meets ‘The Lake House'” love story.
The book’s description on Amazon reads, in part:
A rogue thief in 1840s Ireland is sent by angels to a contemporary small town in America to make amends for his crimes in the past. Forbidden to tell anyone why he is there he must convince the woman he loves to marry another man or be damned for eternity.
Liam O’Connor’s soul is up for judgment and the angels are ready to condemn him. A thief and a rogue in 1840’s Ireland, Liam unwittingly altered the fates of many when he fell in love with Cora McLeod and she ran off with Liam rather than marry her intended, Finn. Now he must make amends so that everyone he impacted meets their intended fates. Liam is sent to the small town of Providence Falls where no one knows him but he knows everyone from their past lives. He has three months to ensure that contemporary Cora, now a police detective, falls in love with Finn a kind and quiet lawyer. But Liam’s passion for Cora is as strong as it was in centuries past and the temptation to be with her again is overpowering and the chemistry between them undeniable. Told in dual timelines, readers will discover what happened to Liam and Cora in their past lives and will wait breathlessly to discover why it is so important that their futures are altered. Both a contemporary love story and an historical mystery with an element of magical realism make this genre mash up an irresistible listen for Jude’s fans and for new fans alike.
It’s not yet known who is starring in the trilogy of films.
Hallmark’s Time Travel Movies Are Fan Favorites
Hallmark’s time travel films are favorites among the network’s viewers.
One of the most popular ones include “Journey Back to Christmas” with Candace Cameron Bure in 2016. The synopsis reads: “A WWII era nurse is transported in time to 2016 and meets a man who helps her discover the bonds of family and that the true meaning of Christmas is timeless.”
“Just in Time for Christmas,” which premiered in 2015, involves traveling into the future rather than the past.
In 1998, Hallmark Hall of Fame presented “The Love Letter,” starring Campbell Scott and Jennifer Jason Leigh. In the movie, a modern-day game designer exchanged letters with a 19th-century poet through an antique desk that had time-travel capabilities.
Niall Matter’s more recent “Rip in Time” with Torrey DeVitto is a big hit among viewers. A synopsis reads: “Sarah (DeVitto) is an organic farmer who meets a man (Matter) named Rip Van Winkle Jr., who claims to be from 1787. Soon, she discovers old-fashioned romantic feelings that might be just as crazy as his story.”
Of course, no one can forget “A Biltmore Christmas” with Kristoffer Polaha and Bethany Joy Lenz. In this movie, Lucy Hardgrove discovers a time-traveling hourglass that lets her travel back to 1947.
