It’s down to the wire for Hallmark star Erin Cahill and her musician husband, Paul Freeman, as he aims to reach the finals of Global Citizen’s “America’s Next Top Hitmaker” Contest. He’s so close to the huge goal, Cahill asked her fans on July 21, 2025, for help with “one final push” of votes.
Freeman, an indie musician who goes by the stage name Welsh Wolf, has ascended through multiple rounds of steep competition since May, thanks to online votes from fans. Only one artist from the group of semifinalists he’s part of will make it to the finals, with voting set to close on July 24 at 10 p.m. Eastern time.
At the time of publication on July 22, Welsh Wolf was in 8th place. Supporters can cast one vote for free by logging into Facebook, or they can cast more votes by making a small donation toward Global Citizen’s mission of ending extreme poverty — a cause close to Cahill and Freeman’s hearts.
Paul Freeman Says Global Citizen Prize Money Would Help Him & Erin Cahill Build Another School
The winner of Global Citizen’s contest will get a billboard in New York, a photo shoot featured in Rolling Stone, the chance to play live at the 2025 Global Citizen Festival in New York, and a $50,000 prize.
Sharing the link to vote for her husband of nearly nine years, Cahill wrote in her Instagram Stories on July 21, “Ok everyone three days left on this! One final push! We can do this.”
If Welsh Wolf were to win, Freeman told Global Citizen in his artist profile that part of his winnings would go toward building their sixth school in a third-world country. He and Cahill have volunteered for years with BuildOn, including constructing a school in Senegal in early 2025.
“That is a lot of money and could do so much good in so many communities,” he said of the potential prize money. “My wife and I are currently raising money for another school so my first thought would be to make a large donation towards that project. After that, I would invest some of it into the development of myself and another Artist I work with. I feel so grateful to be involved with the community work that I do and to be able to do it because of music is such an incredible gift.”
Erin Cahill Says Being Married to a Touring Musician Makes Her ‘Grateful’ for the Time They Have Together
Cahill joined Freeman, who released his new album “A Voyeur’s Dream” in June, for his interview and performance on Los Angeles radio station 88.5FM’s “SoCal Sound Sessions,” which was posted online on July 11.
When host Lev L. Spiro asked her how she handles being married to a musician, the “Holidazed” star said the trick was “just being grateful for the time you get together.”
Cahill explained, “You know, between our two careers, we’re both — we travel quite a bit, and I think it gives us a chance to miss each other. It also gives us a chance to have individual lives. But we’re such a pair. It’s like we’re two whole units, two whole humans coming together to make a unit. Not like two halves, you know?”
When Spiro joked that her answer could be interpreted as “the key to having a good marriage is spending time apart,” Cahill laughed and said, “That is definitely not what I meant!”
