‘Polar Opposites’: Tori Spelling ‘So Proud’ of Ex Dean McDermott’s New Hallmark Movie

Hallmark Channel’s newest rom-com provided Tori Spelling and her kids with some much-needed “levity” after they evacuated their Los Angeles home amid raging wildfires.

Ahead of the “Polar Opposites” premiere on January 11, 2025, the actress cheered on her ex-husband Dean McDermott, who has a supporting role in the rom-com starring Rhiannon Fish and Markian Tarasiuk.

Tori Spelling Says Their Family is ‘So Proud’ of Dean McDermott

Spelling, who appeared in her own Hallmark movie in 2003, “A Carol Christmas,” posted an Instagram Story on January 11 promoting her ex’s new movie. The actors were together for 18 years before she filed for divorce in March 2024.

“Family is so proud,” the “90210” alum wrote in her Story. “We need some levity right now. Watch @iamdeanmcdermott new movie Polar Opposites on Hallmark tonight.”

Spelling promoted the film while staying at an Airbnb rental, which she found at the last minute as she and her five kids, whom she shares with McDermott, fled their Los Angeles home amid the raging wildfires, she shared via Instagram on January 9.

Spelling also liked a post that McDermott shared to promote the movie, which marked McDermott’s return to Hallmark after over a decade. Previously, he starred in 2009’s “Always and Forever” and was a frequent guest on Hallmark’s former “Home & Family” talk show.

McDermott acknowledged the wildfires crisis in his post before the movie’s premiere, writing, “Be safe out there Cali, my prays are with all who have been affected by these wildfires and the brave first responders. May god bless you and keep you safe. #calistrong”

Dean McDermott Celebrated How Far He’d Come Filming ‘Polar Opposites’

When Spelling filed for divorce from McDermott, she listed June 17, 2023, as the date of their separation, per People. She also asked for sole physical custody of their five children and joint legal custody, the outlet said.

In November 2023, McDermott told The Daily Mail that he’d enrolled in a treatment program that summer to address an addiction to alcohol and prescription medications, and admitted his substance abuse eroded their marriage.

“All Tori’s ever done to this day is want me to be happy and healthy,” he said, “and I inflicted a lot of damage and pain on that woman.”

McDermott has since moved on with girlfriend Lily Calo, per People, but he and Spelling have remained on good terms.

In “Polar Opposites,” he plays Fish’s ailing father, who is studying penguins in Antarctica. The movie was filmed in Patagonia and Ushuaia, Argentina — known as the gateway city to Antarctica.

On November 16, McDermott shared a photo of himself in winter gear as he filmed the movie, recognizing how far he’d come over the last year, including marking one year sober in July 2024, per Page Six.

McDermott wrote, “So blessed to be spending my Birthday in Ushuaia, Argentina!! I’m only a stones throw away from Antarctica. Celebrating with old friends, new friends, and my beautiful girlfriend. I owe all of this to Recovery and being clean and sober. Life is Wonderful.”

“Polar Opposites” is scheduled to re-air on January 15 at 8 p.m. Eastern time and is also available to stream on Hallmark+.
