Former “The White Lotus,” “Friday Night Lights,” and “Nashville” alum Connie Britton is set to debut a new show on Hallmark. Ahead of the show’s May 5 premiere, Britton opened up about how her own journey with motherhood inspired the series.
Connie Britton’s Early Days of Parenting Inspired ‘The Motherhood’
On April 25, First for Women shared their interview with Britton. As the outlet noted, Britton not only stars in Hallmark’s new series “The Motherhood,” but she also created it and is the executive producer.
The idea for the unscripted series “came from my experience at that time” of first becoming a mother, Britton noted.
Britton explained that she had just adopted her son Yoby, now 13, when she began working on the series “Nashville.” She shared, “The idea for ‘The Motherhood’ series came from my experience at that time. I moved to Nashville making decisions the way I always had, not realizing that motherhood changes everything.”
She continued, “I didn’t know anyone [in Nashville], had a newborn, no community, no support system and was suddenly working 18-hour days. It was borderline traumatizing–trying to figure out how to be a mom for the first time while carrying major responsibilities on the show.”
“I was lucky to have a nanny, but even then, I just wanted to be with my child,” Britton recalled.
She has put her uncertain motherhood days behind her. “I stand up for myself much more now, and make sure I have time for myself,” she noted.
The Hallmark Series Helps a New Single Mom
According to Deadline, “The Motherhood” airs its first two episodes on May 5. An additional new episode will air each Monday afterward, for a total of six. The episodes will be available on Hallmark+ the following day.
The premise of the unscripted series is that each episode, Britton and her team will work with another single mom “who is juggling the demands of work, parenting, and self-care.”
The team, brings in parenting coach Destini Davis, stylist Taryn Hicks, and DIY and home design specialist Angela Rose to help the mom “create a better living space, while helping to refresh her wardrobe and give her parenting advice.”
Britton explained to First for Women, “The whole point of the show is how much pressure falls on moms–and the importance of having a village around you.”
She noted, “The series really reflects what I’ve learned over my 13 years as a mom–and what I’m still learning, especially through doing the show.”
“The White Lotus” alum acknowledged that for her, “One of the best parts [of the show] is working with other single moms. I learn from each of them how they’re managing, how they’re getting through.”
Britton added, “I’ve realized we all carry this deep sense of aloneness and have to find ways to cope with it…The biggest shock for me was how much energy, effort and brainpower it takes just to think for another human being. That hit me hard.”
