Hallmark and “Dancing with the Stars” alum Cameron Mathison and his estranged wife, Vanessa Mathison, are supporting one another through the heartbreaking loss of their California home.
The home the couple shared for years was destroyed by the wildfire in Pacific Palisades in January. The “Hannah Swensen Mysteries” star had been living in the home at the time, while she lived in a nearby apartment. Both of their children have been attending college in Europe.
On February 25, Vanessa Mathison shared a video and lengthy note on her Instagram page. She began, “Thank you to everyone who left a comment on my last post… they were filled with prayers, and love towards us, and all the families who lost their home.”
The video she included showed the burnt remains of the family’s home. She chose to use the Noah Kahan song “Call Your Mom” to accompany the video.
As both Vanessa Mathison and Cameron Mathison have previously shared, almost nothing remained of the family’s home after the fire. In the new video she posted, a Buddha figure remained intact. Unfortunately, little else could be recovered.
The top comment on her Instagram post came from the former Hallmark star. He wrote, “Can’t watch this without tears. 🙏🏼 Yes, so many prayers and so much support for all those going through the same thing.”
Vanessa Mathison Shared the Loss Has Been Painful & Humbling
Vanessa Mathison wrote, “Losing our home has been an extremely humbling and painful experience for me. Every few days, I drive up to what’s left .. I guess it’s part of my grieving process, like visiting a headstone.”
She continued, “Every time I visit I’m able to look a little closer at the rubble and find little pieces… a finial, a section of the wrought iron handrail, Leila’s Juliette balcony, tile from Lucas and Leila’s bathroom, the plaster detail around our front door. All a reminder of how much love we had for our home, and the memories. I’ll be sifting through the rubble soon hoping to find little things.”
Amid the heartbreak, she noted she also tries her best to find gratitude. She admitted she is “both ok and not ok.” She added, “I’m so grateful for the beautiful years I spent in our home. There’s light somewhere ahead, I can’t see it yet but I know it’s there.”
