Hallmark alum Cameron Mathison is still trying to navigate losing his home and nearly all of his possessions to the Pacific Palisades, California wildfire in January.
The former “Hannah Swensen Mysteries” star has kept fans updated throughout the difficult experience. Even with as much as Mathison has shared, he recently admitted “It’s way harder to explain to people than I’m capable of doing.”
Despite his family’s loss and struggles, Mathison also explained his determination to support others and maintain “positive vibes.”
Cameron Mathison Prioritizes Compassion & Gratitude
Mathison spoke with TV Insider on February 11 and opened up about the challenges he’s navigating with the loss of his home. He admitted sometimes during difficult losses he gets “caught up in a spiral.”
However, Mathison explained, “I try to keep those positive vibes going while I’m dealing with loss. It’s beneficial to others and to me, too.”
He lives his life trying to be “‘other-centric’ rather than self-centric,” noting, “It’s so important to have empathy, compassion, and gratitude.”
While the loss of his family’s home has been heartbreaking, it is not the only incredibly difficult thing he has faced in his life over the past few years.
“I had my cancer. My mom’s cancer. She died. Covid happened. ‘Home & Family’ got canceled. Someone close to my family went through a trial. [My wife Vanessa] and I got separated. My dog, Red, got sick. He died. My kids left the house to go to college,” Mathison listed.
He continued, “Then, I come home to find my house had burned down. I have fewer possessions now than I did when I came into this world.”
Mathison added, “It’s been like, ‘What is happening?’ That has helped me to think of others.”
The Actor Already Had a Mishap in His New Place
Just a couple of days after talking with TV Insider, Mathison shared another challenge he was facing.
In an Instagram Story on February 13, the actor shared a photo of his toes. They were seriously battered and bruised, and he explained why.
“Fell down my new stairs,” Mathison wrote. “Two broken toes,” he revealed.
In keeping with his focus on positive vibes whenever possible, Mathison added, “Come on … what else ya got.”
Throughout his heartbreak over the loss of his family’s home, Mathison has also repeatedly thanked people for their help and support, and sent prayers and good thoughts to others facing similar challenges.
