Two months after his family’s home burned down in the Los Angeles wildfires, actor Cameron Mathison says what he misses the most are not the material things, but the memories left behind. On March 9, 2025, the Hallmark alum and “General Hospital” star shared a heartfelt social media video, asking if those who’ve been part of his past can help him “rebuild a lifetime of memories lost.”
As fires raged through areas of L.A., destroying thousands of structures, Mathison was one of the first celebrities to reveal his house was a total loss. Though he managed to grab a few things before evacuating the home where he and his ex-wife Vanessa raised their kids — Lucas, 21, and Leila, 18 — most of the mementos and photos documenting their past are gone.
“Dear friends,” he captioned his video on March 9. “I’m on a mission to rebuild a lifetime of memories that were lost in the fire—please share any PHOTOS you have of me and the family from over the years.”
“I’d be so grateful if you could pass this request along to anyone else who knows me,” Mathison continued, “so I can piece back together the moments that mean so much!”
Cameron Mathison Says It Feels ‘Very Odd’ Not Having Any Photos of His Past
Mathison posted his selfie video while in London, where his son Lucas is living, and told his followers, “I came up with the idea to reach out via Instagram to ask anybody who’s known me throughout my life: if you have any photos from my elementary school, middle school, high school, or college. Playing basketball at McGill, modeling years traveling around the world, early ‘All My Children’ years, through the birth of Lucas and Leila.”
“It would mean to much to me,” Mathison continued. “We lost all of that, we all did in the fire — Vanessa, Lucas, Leila, and I. I know Vanessa’s been talking to people, and her friends, accumulating some, and Lucas and Leila are working on those. But I thought I’d make a little reach out on Instagram for myself. It would mean so much to me.”
“It’s very odd having no physical evidence of your life like that, including photos,” the “Hannah Swensen Mysteries” alum shared. “And that would mean the world to me.”
Mathison suggested that people scan the photos they find and email them to a special address he’s set up at cameronmathisonphotos@gmail.com.
Many fans and friends left encouraging words in the comment section for Mathison, including Vanessa, to whom he was married for 22 years until they announced their split in July 2024.
She wrote, “I really hope people will send photos🙏🏽❤️.. this loss in the hardest part”
Cameron Mathison Says He Would Have Saved More Had He Realized His House Could Be Completely Destroyed
Mathison has since moved into a rental condo with everything from furniture to dishes donated by friends, he posted on Instagram in mid-February, sharing in a video, “I’m so grateful to have a place to stay. It makes it a lot easier.”
On January 9, Mathison told “Good Morning America” that he had escaped his home with very few belongings. He said he was out to dinner when he realized flames were heading toward his house.
“I raced back home and I put a bag together with what I’m wearing,” he said, “and I left to come and stay at an apartment here in Pasadena with my daughter and her mom and then as we’re watching the news, I realize this could be bad.”
He told “Entertainment Tonight” on January 8, “We grabbed passports and birth certificates. I got all the photo albums that I could get out of there. I unfortunately left some really valuable ones where the kids were very, very young, and film that you can’t replace. I grabbed my dog’s ashes. I grabbed a stuffed animal of my daughter’s. And that was it. That was it. If I really thought that the house was going down, I would have grabbed so much more.”
