For Brooke Shields, one day is not enough to celebrate turning 60! And neither is one week or even one month.
The former Hallmark actress is going big to celebrate her sixth decade with a year-long celebration, according to a new post on her Instagram account.
Brooke put up a series of pictures and videos of herself with newborn lambs. The first picture shows the actress with a huge smile on her face as she cuddles a tiny lamb. In the caption, the actress wrote, “Thus begins the big, year-long 60th birthday celebration. My goal: doing things I’ve never done before and have always wanted to do! Most importantly… doing them with friends & people I love. This sounded like the best way to celebrate instead of one big party.
First stop: spending a few days helping bring little lives into the world 🐑👩🌾🌾 Little Lambs – oh how I love you!! Thank you for having me, @chatsworthofficial! 🩵
Not sure what the next stop on the celebration will be… any suggestions? It could be as simple as going to a botanical garden or on a hike in a park upstate.”
In the pictures, Brooke is even seen wearing long plastic gloves farmers use when helping deliver baby animals.
Brooke tags Chatsworth House, which is an historic British charity farm about three hours north of London in Derbyshire, England.
Brooke Shields Has a Message for Women
Brooke Shields will turn 60 on May 31.
And while she may be feeling nostalgic for 80’s music based on a recent Instagram post, the actress who brought Abby Knight to life in Hallmark’s “Flower Shop Mysteries” is not trying to turn back the clock.
In fact, Brooke has become an outspoken proponent of being allowed to age gracefully. She’s even written a book titled, “Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old.”
In an interview with “Good Morning America,” the actress and model talked about growing older. She said the book’s message for women is “that this period of their time over 40 is a wonderful time, and it’s all about you. You’ve earned it, and it’s your turn to feel really, really supported by yourself and good about yourself.”
“Every single woman I know who’s over 40 is absolutely fabulous,” she went on. “They are doing new things and they’re empowered in a way that they weren’t ever before.”
Brooke Shields Explains the Title of Her Book
In the “GMA” interview, Brooke explained the title of her book “Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old.”
Shields said she was having a “wonderful conversation” with a man, even deeming it “very light-hearted and a little flirty” – right up until the moment she mentioned her age.
“The minute I mentioned my age, because we were talking about wine, his whole demeanor changed instantly and he said, ‘I really wish you didn’t tell me that,'” she recalled. “I thought that’s a really interesting thing, that if you’ve been imprinted on by the public or by men for any reason, aging is not part of their plan for you and somehow you’re disappointing.”
“People want me to look like I did in ‘Blue Lagoon,'” she said. “But I don’t.”
Brooke Shields’ Biggest Goal for Her 60th Year
While Brooke plans to fill her 60th year with new adventures yet to be determined, the biggest thing on her wish list is more time with her two daughters.
“I’m most looking forward to being able to be in this age with my girls, watching them sort of really come into their own lives,” she said of daughters 21-year-old Rowan and 19-year-old Grier.
Youngest Grier also just celebrated her birthday on April 18.
Brooke posted a video on her Instagram account of her husband of almost 24-years, Chris Henchy, unexpectedly showing up for Grier’s birthday party. Henchy lives across the country in California. He was not expected at the party, so his surprise caused the mother and daughters to burst into tears. In the caption, Brooke writes, “Dad of the century surprised @grierhhenchy for her birthday… but really he surprised me and @rowanhenchyy too!!! We all cried… he said it was just a flight ❤️”
