Hallmark Star Feels ‘Really Guilty’ When She Doesn’t Follow Her Daughter’s Fashion Rules

A stunning Hallmark star recently admitted that her daughter’s approach to fashion sometimes leaves her mother feeling guilty and torn. Andie MacDowell opened up about how her daughter Rainey Qualley influences “The Way Home” star’s decisions.

Andie MacDowell Loves Fashion, But Her Daughter Tends Toward Minimalism

On April 24, MacDowell and Qualley talked with People about their styles. The two were featured in People’s World’s Most Beautiful issue and wore vintage gowns for the photo shoot.

MacDowell noted, “Some of my greatest joy is fashion. I love fashion, but I try to be conscious … and buy things that are gonna last and think about that.” She said she gets that mindset from Qualley, who “encourages me to shop my closet.”

Qualley is “very minimalist” and “not a consumer” when it comes to fashion, shopping vintage, and holding onto very little, MacDowell explained. As a result, “A lot of times I feel really guilty” about purchasing new clothes.

She admitted, “Clothes do make me happy. I do enjoy them very much.” MacDowell noted she often tries to get Qualley to buy something new, but Qualley “wears the same things over and over again and over and over again,” the Hallmark star added.

Rainey Qualley Has Been Influenced by Her Mother’s Style

As much as MacDowell loves getting new pieces for her closet, she shared that she also holds onto a lot during her chat with People.

She has a lot of jewelry and shoes she has kept in hopes of passing the items down to her daughters, but MacDowell noted that her beloved Prada shoes won’t fit either of her daughters.

During a recent visit to see MacDowell in South Carolina, Qualley snagged a Burberry coat from her mother’s closet to wear. MacDowell admitted she got the jacket from her other daughter, Margaret Qualley.

While Qualley is open about giving her mom fashion advice, she’s “not a judgmental person,” MacDowell insisted. “She’s very much into: ‘Whatever makes you happy, you should do it,” she added.

Qualley shared, “I think I’m pretty open. I don’t think I’m really shocked by anything anybody wants to wear.”

MacDowell’s daughter has paid attention to her mother’s fashion choices since she was quite young. Qualley explained, “She used to have this big pile of like all these magazines that she was in. I used to look to them every Christmas.”

She continued, “I would just spend hours looking at all the old spreads of her. There’s so many great looks in there.”

Over the years, MacDowell’s choices have “influenced my taste, the colors that I’m drawn to and just, like, the romanticism that [she] decorates her whole life with,” Qualley told People.
