Alexa PenaVega Healing & Thankful for Fans’ Prayers After Memorial Day Weekend Accident

Actress Alexa PenaVega thanked fans for their prayers after a gruesome accident over Memorial Day weekend required a trip to the E.R. and two bandaged fingers. On May 25, 2025, the Hallmark alum shared details and photos of her mishap, posting a photo of her hand wrapped in gauze with blood running down her legs.

Over the photo, PenaVega wrote, “So yesterday I almost lost two fingers 😂🙈🤷🏼. But praise Jesus they are still there!!!”

The former “Picture Perfect Mysteries” actress posted an update in her feed on May 27 to let fans know she’s healing well, writing, “Thank you for all the prayers. Healing is going so well!!! Moving so much today! I basically smashed my fingers between a moving dolly and a treadmill. Rachel in the ER did her best stitching me together. It was for sure a Frankenstein type stitch since the fingers were smashed open and not cut. (I know. Ew). But I will be back to me in no time! So thankful it wasn’t worse!!!”

Alexa PenaVega Says Husband Carlos PenaVega Was With Her When She Sustained Her Hand Injury

PenaVega, who’s married to fellow Hallmark alum and Big Time Rush singer Carlos PenaVega, posted a series of photos and videos on May 27, including footage of her slowly bending her injured fingers.

She also shared part of the explanation she’d shared in her Instagram Stories two days prior, which said, “Story time: Basically, I tried pulling the dolly out from under the treadmill that was loaded with stuff on it. Literally as Carlos was walking in saying he had it … it felt on my hand smashing it between the dolly.”

“The smash made the two fingers explode open (ew). But honestly I didn’t know if the fingers were on or dangling at first because it was flappy and fast. We had to kinda Frankenstein stitch them together since it wasn’t a clean cut. Trying to gently move them today to maintain movement and praying for total healing!”

Fans and friends filled the “Spy Kids” alum’s comment section with well wishes, including one who wrote, “Omg poor Carmen Elizabeth Juanita de Costa Brava Cortés 😔I hope you feel better soon ✨”

Another commented, “Bless your heart I bet that hurt 🙏🏻”

“Wow,” someone else wrote. “I hope your fingers heal soon!!! I am sending you lots of love, and prayers!!!”

Alexa & Carlos PenaVega Moved From Hallmark to Great American Family in 2024

PenaVega’s accident occurred exactly one year after her and her husband’s first movie with Great American Family, “Mr. Manhattan,” began streaming on its Great American PureFlix platform on May 24, 2024. The company announced that April that the couple had begun working there, leaving their years-long relationship with Hallmark behind.

After years of working with Hallmark, including their three-movie “Picture Perfect Mysteries” franchise, the PenaVegas signed a multi-picture deal with Hallmark Media in October 2022, per Deadline. The result included “Never Too Late to Celebrate,” which premiered in July 2023.

Great American Family was started in early 2021 by former Hallmark Media CEO Bill Abbott, who attracted several stars over to the new network, including Candace Cameron Bure and Danica McKellar. The PenaVegas have continued to appear in movies there, including 2024’s “Love at the Kettle.”

The couple have also been open about suffering the loss of their fourth child, Indy, to stillbirth in early 2024. They live in Nashville, where they’re raising sons Ocean and Kingston, and daughter Rio.
