Guy Fieri Goes Viral Over Response to Seeing Celebrity Chef Walk Again After Tragedy

Amidst the pageantry of the Food Network South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF) February 20-23, there was an incredible and inspiring comeback story.

On November 5, 2024, celebrity chef Tobias Dorzon was shot multiple times during a robbery in Washington D.C. Told he would be unable to walk for up to 10 months, Dorzon refused to wait that long, and on February 21, he surprised everyone, particularly Food Network star Guy Fieri, as Dorzon walked unassisted during the event.

The look of stunned amazement on Fieri’s face was palpable as he saw his friend walking again so soon after the shooting. The Instagram post has been viewed by nearly 17 million people and received almost 300,000 likes, with one commenter stating, “Ayyyoooo guy’s face broke me into tears. You his guy frfr. Keep healing chef. Prayer up!”

Fellow celebrity chef Aarti Sequeira also left a comment, writing, “It was SO GOOD to see you standing strong.”

Guy Fieri Expresses Admiration for Tobias Dorzon Battling Through Tragedy

In another post a few days later, Dorzon shared a video of himself on stage at SOBEWFF with Fieri, who touted Dorzon as “one of the best cooks I’ve ever had a chance to know.” Fieri also voiced his admiration for Dorzon battling through “one of the worst tragedies I’ve ever seen.”

Dorzon, who also goes by Huncho, wrote some moving words with the post, recalling all of the challenges he faced after getting struck by 11 bullets, eight in the lower body. Emergency surgery, with four follow-up procedures over the next two weeks, and the prognosis was no walking until summer at the earliest.

“90 days later God said different and I walked out on stage at the biggest food festival in America @sobewff with over 2000 people & no assistance but God,” Dorzon wrote. “You had to understand the feelings, the energy, the courage & the mental it took to do that. Me and God have been in rehab getting ready to show the world what’s next for Huncho.”

Guy Fieri, Other Chefs Rally Around Tobias Dorzon Throughout Recovery

Dorzon, who has made appearances on several Food Network programs such as “Chopped,” “Tournament of Champions” and “Guy’s Grocery Games, also expressed gratitude to Fieri and fellow chefs Eric Adjepong and Tiffani Faison for keeping in constant contact with Dorzon and his family “just to check on me. Thank You 🖤.”

Dorzon told a Washington D.C. news site that the mental part of his recovery was even tougher than the physical struggles.

“Just learning how to walk again,” Dorzon said. “But, you know, just being an ex-athlete, it’s easier to put the physical part together. It’s the mental part — just being able to deal with the day-to-day and feel confident within yourself to get back out there and push to do what you love to do.”
