Gordon Ramsay Overcomes Old Injuries With Major Athletic Achievement

Chef Gordon Ramsay, now 58, is known not only for his hosting roles on reality shows like “Hell’s Kitchen” and “MasterChef,” but also for his numerous Michelin-starred restaurants. A force to be reckoned with in the kitchen and on the set, has similarly proved himself a serious contender in the athletic world.

Most recently, Ramsay showed off his endurance by participating in a triathlon in Luxembourg on July 13, 2025 – just one year after he suffered severe bruising after a devastating bicycle crash.

“Good morning Luxembourg!!!” wrote Ramsay ahead of the Luxembourg “Ironman” triathlon on Sunday. The message was accompanied by a photo of the celebrity chef kissing his wife, Tana Ramsay ahead of the race. “So excited to be able to participate at this [Ironman 70.3]. It’s taken a lot [of] work and training to get me back to where I am today, and it was all for this! Good luck to everyone participating today.”

A secondary post followed seven hours later after Ramsay completed the 70.3-mile triathlon, which included a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bicycle ride, and a 13.1-mile race on foot to the finish.

“Ironman 70.3…done” wrote the “MasterChef” host beneath a video, which showed him smiling as he powered across the finish line and straight into the arms of his wife, who awarded him his medal. “I’M BACK and Cooking!!!”

Out of the 2,528 racers, Ramsay placed 2,106th, finishing the race in exactly 6 hours, 52 minutes and 28 seconds. The celebrity restaurateur completed the swimming leg in just 41 minutes and 28 seconds, with the biking portion taking an additional 3 hours, 16 minutes and three seconds. Ramsay completed the final 13.1-mile race to the finish in just 2 hours, 34 minutes and three seconds.

Ramsay’s 25-year-old son, Jack, similarly competed in Sunday’s race, besting his father with a 1,312th place finish, nearly an hour ahead of his 58-year-old dad.

In a post-race interview with Ironman, Ramsay added, “Super excited to be back, what an incredible race and well organized. From this time a year ago, it’s a dream come true. Looking forward to more races to come.”

Ramsay’s latest athletic achievement proves that he has always been more than just a celebrity chef and restaurateur. In previous statements, Ramsay even revealed that had hopes of becoming a successful soccer star, playing the sport for the Oxford United youth team before being “courted” by the Scottish Premiere League Glasgow Rangers at 15. Unfortunately, a severe knee injury as a teenager cut the dream short.

In 1987, two years after his injury, Ramsay earned his degree in hotel management, kickstarting his foray into hospitality that would eventually grow into international culinary stardom.

While he has remained fit throughout his television career, Ramsay first began training for triathlons in 2018 to stay in top form. Unfortunately, in June 2024, he sustained a serious injury while cycling.

“You know how much I love cycling… Unfortunately, this week I had a really bad accident. It really shook me,” said Ramsay in a video following the incident. “And I’m lucky to be standing here.” Alongside the video message, Ramsay also revealed the aftermath of the crash – a shocking bruise that stretched the length of his torso.”

Ramsay’s performance in Sunday’s “Ironman 70.3 Luxembourg Remich – Region Moselle” triathlon brought an end to a year of recovery for the celebrity chef.
