Anne Burrell passed away in her home in Brooklyn, New York, on the morning of Tuesday, June 17, at the age of 55, and the New York Times reports that it is being investigated by the police as a possible drug overdose.
The New York Times obtained internal documents, which said that Burrell was “discovered in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills.” She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
An autopsy has reportedly been completed, and according to the New York Times, “any findings on the cause and manner of Ms. Burrell’s death were still pending.”
Page Six previously reported that Burrell went into cardiac arrest before her death.
Anne Burrell Was At An Improve Show On Her Last Night
PEOPLE reported that the night before Burrell was found dead in her home, she was at an improv show.
“Everyone said she was so great last night and so happy,” a source told the outlet.
Another source added that she “was in great spirits last night during and after the improv show. Typical fun, outgoing Anne, having a blast.” And with that, people are “shocked and confused” because she appeared to be okay when she left the improv show.
Burrell had been taking improv classes at Second City NYC, and they posted a sweet tribute to the Food Network star after her death.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and student, Anne Burrell. She will be missed and remembered as a vibrant part of our Second City New York Training Center community. Anne brought joy, boldness, and an unwavering “yes, and” spirit. Her enthusiasm was contagious, her presence unforgettable. Our thoughts go out to Anne’s family and loved ones,” Second City NYC wrote on Instagram.
Food Network Aired an Anne Burrell Tribute
On June 25, Food Network celebrated the life and work of Burrell by playing “a curated selection of encore episodes featuring Anne will highlight her extraordinary talent as a chef, competitor and teacher,” according to a press release.
It included episodes from “Guy’s Grocery Games,” “Worst Cooks in America: Worst of the Worst,” and “Worst Cooks in America: Boot Camp Diaries.”
Food Network also posted a heartfelt tribute to Burrell after he death.
“We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved chef, Anne Burrell, passed away this morning. Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss,” the network wrote on Instagram
